  • Hi everyone lurker here!

Just a note on the competitions- I had a dedicated facebook for it and was friends with lots of people on the forum here but they kicked us off because they could tell it wasn't a 'real' account so you do have to use your own facebook which is very annoying

I enter the online ones (not social media anymore), about 50 a day for the last 7 years and haven't won that much- my biggest wins were £500 from pepsi and last year a huge flatscreen Samsung TV and Soundbar which I sold but found it very hard to do and got about the half the value of it

It's certainly not a get rich quick scheme, but if you have the time to spare you might as well. My motto is 'you've got to be in it to win it!'

I'd be prepared to open an account, though, just like a dedicated email address ...

Thank you:). Yes, I suppose that's the sensible thing to do and I'll think seriously about taking your advice. I know of several people who have had data issues with some of the social media sites though and after having my email address hacked when I was with BT I'm wary about trusting my personal information even to big, established companies:o

What I really came on here for this afternoon was to report that my creditor responded in double-quick time with the wording I'd requested before finally settling my debt. They must be as keen to receive the money as I am to pay it:rotfl:. I've just phoned them and paid by debit card:j:j:j. The money has instantly gone from my current account. That's another debt all done and dusted which just leaves one creditor still to accept a settlement figure.

I paid the £480 to settle from my current account instead of plundering the limited access savings account I'd set up for my F&F savings. 2 withdrawals a year are permitted from the savings account without loss of interest but I decided instead to use the money I'd earmarked to add to my car fund. There won't be any savings going into it this month as the remainder of what I'd planned to channel into it will be going on my PlusNet Line Rental Saver annual payment. I've also paid my GreenFlag annual car breakdown cover out of the potential car savings too.

I think I know what I'm doing:think:. Having savings to juggle is a whole new world for me:rotfl: My signature is now updated. Being under £2000 in debt feels and looks so good:dance:

 EvelynBaker. Thanks for delurking and posting on my diary. I hope you'll be a regular visitor from now on:)

Thanks for the interesting insight into the potential social media pitfalls:T. I don't have any sort of account yet on any of the sites and have deliberately steered away from them. I certainly don't want my own life out there for people to read about or, heaven forbid, post any photos of what I do. I suppose I could use it just for comps, it will be a 'real' account after all but then I suppose I'll run into problems with the email address situation:think:. More thinking needed.

CBC, congratulations on the F&F!!! Have a cake :bdaycake:

EvelynBaker's experience gives me pause ... what happens if you use your real account? I have an actual fb account, but I don't post at all, except for a few pix on the allcatsarebeautiful page :) I'm wondering what the disadvantages are, if you use your real account?

Anyway, the main thing is, you've paid off that account! Congratulations again :)

The problem is getting friends- You aren't 'real' without friends to share the posts with etc, (tree falling in the woods and all that) so either you get your real friends on there to share the competitions with or get guys from the forums but Facebook ends up figuring it out and closing you down. I'm sure there are whole forums on the competitions page that talk about it all.

Also just wanted to say well done for reducing your debts so dramatically!- must be such an amazing feeling!

The disadvantages to using your real account is that your facebook is full of competitions which isn't great for your friends and family to have to see all the time (bit annoying and spammy) and also may be a tad embarrassing?

Evelyn, thank you! Those are *big* disadvantages! Maybe we all need to make a pact to share with one another and start off that way :) with "false" accounts that become real because we'd all be compers :rotfl:

    Wonderful :T:T:T

And I love your updated signature - another piece of the burden lifted.

I entirely understand that people have differing views on Facebook. I love having my family and friends on there, to post our photos and share titbits of family news. DD2 has a running series of 'The World according to *****', which is the latest weird & wonderful verbal convolution of a 4yr old !
My Aunt also had a FB account, once she realised she could look at all the photos rather than waiting for someone to bring a laptop to her on a visit.
All my friends have to put up with a lot of cats (we don't have any so I have whole families of internet cats!!) on my feed, but I refuse space to politics or anything really contentious. Cats, of course, are not contentious at all, but love-spreaders !!!
