Sort of debt-free but hope to be a super-scrimper in 2019

I hope you manage to get a doctors appointment for your neuralgia. It's very unpleasant to be in pain.
I also found the sink unblocking interesting :rotfl:. We suffer from blocked everything . DH uses a large plunger for the toilet. I buy Buster heavy duty sink unblocker from the supermarket for the sinks. I pour it down at bedtime, leave it overnight and by the morning the sink is always unblocked :T. They do a kitchen one for grease and a bathroom one for hair.
We also invested in drainage rods several years ago as our drains get blocked now and again and a garden full of sewage is no fun .Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Like all the others Car Boot, I hope you get a doctor’s appointment soon.
I have had very bad back pain over the years and was prescribed Tramadol by my GP. It never touched the pain. My elderly mother was prescribed it too a few years back and it knocked her out!
I have taken Veganin for years. It contains coedine, paracetamol and aspirin. I used to take it many years ago for severe period pains and it was the only over the counter tablet that helped to relieve the pain. I eventually went on a prescription pill for the pain (can’t remember the name as it was so long ago). I still take Veganin on the odd occasion for tension headaches and when my back pain flares up it’s the only thing that touches the pain. A few years back, when I was visiting my mum, I had a really bad headache and she offered me one of her Cocodamol tablets - that never touched the pain either. I called at the Chemist on the way home and the pain subsided immediately. I don’t know why it always works for me, maybe it’s the aspirin, combined with coedine and paracetamol? Worth a try maybe? A few months ago, I was laid up with my back and I ran out. I ordered it on-line from The Independent Pharmacy and it arrived the next day. I have used this online service before when I desparately needed some prescription hydrocortisone cream to clear up a nasty rash. Yes, it did cost me, not very MSE of me I know, when I could have got it for free as I had just turned 60, but it came the next day - I would have had to wait over a week to see my doctor. Our GP surgery offers an online appointment system, but to see the doctor of your choice takes well over a week and even ANY doctor the best part of a week. I know, we shouldn’t grumble, we are very fortunate to have our NHS, but when you are in pain you can’t help it:mad:
Hope you get some relief soon.0 -
Post shingles, and ending up looking like a bank robber, thats me! Feels crazy, but thats exactly it
CBC, have you ever tried that ibuprofen gel? I haven't used it for the nerve pain myself, just for the shoulder arthritis sometimes, so I don't know if it would be any good.
Thanks for the ibuprofen gel tip, KC:T. I never thought to try that although it sounds a lot safer to use a topical gel rather than constantly popping pills. Even better, we actually have some in the house:j. When OH was in agony with his thumb he bought some but it had little effect, probably because when it was x-rayed it turned out that he'd dislocated it:eek:.0 -

Thank you very much for your advice:T. I'm sorry you suffer so much pain. Apart from headaches often after I've been out in the sun without sunglasses, especially driving when the sun is low in the sky I don't experience much pain really. This neuralgia is a nuisance because it's like constant, raging toothache in every tooth on one side of my jaw at the same time. Lasts for days (and nights) at a time so trying to sleep is hopeless. I need little sleep as a rule but having practically none for several nights in a row makes me very grumpy:o
I had a friend years ago who took Veganin for period pain. I remember her giving me one for a bad headache and it worked really quickly. I didn't know it was still around. Is it still available over the counter? If it is I think I'll try it.0 -
After all my recent complaining about the shed, neuralgia and blocked sink (sorry, everyone:o), I've finally a bit of good news:j
I mentioned earlier that I'm waiting for some good Full and Final Settlement offers to finish off my debts for good. I know I ran up the debts myself, no one made me spend money so recklessly and because of that I felt I needed to repay what I owed. I did everything I could to get to the stage I'm at now but just feel that the lenders need to take a bit of responsibility. They were very quick to offer increased credit limits and enticing loans, even when it must have been obvious that I was drowning in debt. Although I was repaying as much as I could (before I had no alternative but to embark on a DMP) the lenders were still slapping interest on and so much of my debt was interest and not what I actually borrowed. I read of so may people negotiating discounts on clearing the final part of their debts that I decided, after already repaying about £49k since 2013, that I would try to negotiate discounts for the last bit of mine.
Of my 4 creditors, 2 settled at very acceptable amounts in November but the last 2 wouldn't accept anything less than discounts of about 35% or 40%. I had enough money set aside to cover at least that amount but didn't plan to pay all that;). I wanted to be truly debt-free by the end of 2018 but when I realised it wasn't going to happen:( I decided to be patient (not an easy thing for me:o) and sit it out until they improved their offers. Today the creditor who originally offered a 40% discount wrote to me offering a discount of 69%:j. Seems a strange figure to choose but it means I only have to repay 31% of the balance. It's only a very small outstanding balance but would still take about 100 years to pay off at the £1 a month I'm currently paying:rotfl:. I doubt they'll improve on 31% payable so as soon as they open tomorrow I'll phone and accept. So, that's 3 debts settled and just the one awkward creditor to go. The final one is my second biggest original debt and I've already repaid them about £11k. Maybe they'll reconsider soon and I can settle that one too:j0 -
That's brilliant news Carboot your patience is rewarded, they caved in first :T:T. One down and one to go :T. Don't forget to update your signature.
And you haven't been moaning, just telling it like it is.
