An ex colleague of mine is still in our lottery syndicate and he pays me every other month via Paypal. There has never been a fee payable by me!

He probably sends it via friends and family then which in this instance would be the correct way to pay money to a friend.

it depends how it is sent - if its sent as though its a friend to a friend - no charge

A normal PayPal payment charges the receiver, not the sender.
Only if they are receiving payment for goods or services supplied. If you send payment as a gift then the sender pays.

As above, if they send a payment via friends and family no one pays if they use a cleared balance. if however they use a card but still select friends and family then sender can choose to pay the fee or pass it on to the recipient. If sender sends a normal PayPal payment then buyer automatically pays.

As this thread concerns payments for services then it would be logical to assume that a normal PayPal payment is made, if that is the case then recipient automatically pays.

It's indeed a payment for goods or services. They are paying me for my services. They are not donating money to a friend. As the recipient of a payment for goods or services, I would pay a fee. But that's not the only issue. Another issue is that the email address that I use for my self-employment is not linked to Paypal and I'm reluctant to give out my secondary email address that is linked to my personal Paypal (I want to keep them separate). Paypal doesn't allow people to sign up to two different accounts with two different email addresses. I don't want to change the email address that I use for Paypal as I don't want the main email address to be linked in with Paypal.

Another thing is that the company shouldn't impose a change to the Ts and Cs after the assignment has been completed. By taking away the choice of payment options they are inconveniencing me. Therefore, it seems reasonable to write back to them and say that actually, I'm not too happy with this change and would like to be offered an alternative payment method, such as BACS, as it was not mentioned in the Ts and Cs that I would have to use Paypal on this occasion.

But PayPal does allow you to have more than one email address on your account.

To some extent this comes down to what risk you are taking (if any) in insisting on some other means of payment and what value you put on the inevitable delay compared with accepting a PayPal payment now.

I sell tickets via viagoggo on occasion and they always send the money directly to my Paypal account. I then withdraw the money directly to my bank account and I am not charged any fee to do this.

There are fees to the person sending, so why would they send PayPal, espically if multi
National. They can also withdraw the funds.

Because there are far larger fees if sending the money any other way.
