Company doesn't want to pay by BACS, only Paypal

I used to do ad-hoc work for a multi-national company on a self-employed basis (from home). They used to pay me in GBP into my UK bank account and I did not need to pay any fees. Now they are saying that if the amount they owe me is less than £70, they will only pay it by Paypal. I don't want them to pay it by Paypal.
They used to pay me by BACS and it was not mentioned in the Ts and Cs that certain payment amounts would have to be paid into Paypal. This is something that they informed me about after I had invoiced them for the assignment.
Is it reasonable to request that they make the payment by BACS, without this incurring any fees at my end, since they shouldn't really be changing the Ts and Cs after the assignment?

I don't want to use Paypal. It seems reasonable to expect to be offered an alternative payment method.

Before the assignment in question, I had completed lots of assignments for them over several years and they used to pay me by BACS without any problems, even though some of the payments may have been worth less than £70. It seems that they changed the payment terms at some point, but I was only informed after they had processed my invoice.

  • What’s the problem with a one of PayPal and then rewrite the contact? It gets paid straight to your bank account, well eventually.

Wouldn't bother me personally. No fees involved, and transfer to bank usually takes a couple of hours at most.

You could sue for the additional costs you have in getting paid, but the cost of doing so far outweighs the costs you have incurred. So, I would suggest you accept the Paypal fee and make sure you never do work that will be less than £70 again for this company.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • When I do a transfer from my PayPal account to my current account is says up to 2 hours but it’s always there within minutes.

    There is no fee.

Don't be so daft. All that would achieve is ensuring OP never got any work from that customer again.

OP - this will be classed as a personal domestic transaction by Paypal and any fee is paid by the sender, so you're making a fuss about nothing. Funds can be moved to your bank account with a couple of clicks of the mouse.
  • There are fees to the person sending, so why would they send PayPal, espically if multi
National. They can also withdraw the funds.

PayPal payments are subject to a fee on the receiver and that could be a few pounds out of the received amount. The only way to stop being charged a fee is if sender uses a PayPal balance or bank transfer and sends it as a friends and family payment .

Since there is a sum of money involved it might be worth the OP getting a guarantee that sender will follow the requirements for a F and F payment from cleared funds and not pay a normal payment for services using a card backed payment.

A normal PayPal payment charges the receiver, not the sender.

An ex colleague of mine is still in our lottery syndicate and he pays me every other month via Paypal. There has never been a fee payable by me!
