O/S Daily Tuesday 1st January 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning - and Happy New Year :j

I managed to stay awake for the Bells, only just, and was out for the count shortly afterwards.

Earlier on DM got up, showered and dressed for the first time since Saturday. I'd persuaded her to make a video for the Aussie family and then another for the German family. Turns out to have been a good move as the response was almost instant. Everyone loved seeing and hearing her and I've got a great addition to the memory banks.

Today I'll do a little shopping for fresh bits for DM, that's all really. And that'll be after another snooze.

I wish everyone health, wealth and happiness, even if two out of three isn't bad.

Good morning everyone, and Happy New Year.

Yesterday's viewing of "Gone With the Wind" went really well, with everyone ensconced in comfy chairs with cups of tea at the start, then soup, cheese, pate and biscuits etc half way through.

It was so long since I had seen it that I had forgotten much of the storyline, except of course for the climactic final scenes which still packed a punch all these years later. Cue final cuppas as we came back to current location and reality!

So we all enjoyed the day, and have discussed having another movie day or afternoon from time to time. The next epic we would like to see is the Julie Christie & Omar Sharif version of Dr Zhivago. Also suggested was the Julie Christie version of Far From the Madding Crowd. There's plenty of choice to keep us happy :)

After clearing up, I went round to a friend's for an early evening meal, and from her garden had an unimpeded view of the early fireworks display in our city. Home for 9.30 and in bed not long afterwards.

A quiet day today, I'll factor in a walk in the afternoon. I over catered on the soup, so some is going to a neighbour and I'll freeze some too.

Hugs to all. The New Year will bring challenges and joys and I wish us all strength and appreciation for the times ahead. Looking forward to many more of our shared moments here on Old Style. xxx

Good morning and Happy New Year to everyone
Well I was in bed for 10.30 last night and asleep not long afterwards. Youngest DD was kept in hospital last night as her blood pressure was very high. She texted this morning to say her boyfriend had surprised her by turning up to see the New Year in with her...he'd phoned the ward to ask if he could go in. We'll just have to wait and see whether she gets home today.
Eldest DD is back in London and was going to a friend's party last night and then a club....hopefully not too long till I get a text to say she's fine and had a good night.
I'm going down to my mam and dads for lunch later. Other than that just a nice lazy day, will probably go down to DDs later if she gets home, or boyfriend may just drop her off here.
Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Happy New Year, wishing you all health, wealth and happiness x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself enjoying first peaceful cuppas, and naughty xmas biscuits. DS2 already been for a run, he's now getting in the shower, DS1 still in his pit, he'll surface at some point no doubt.

Dinner last night was chicken curry and vegetable curry, rice and some accompaniments, samosa's, bhaji's, poppadums etc.

I have a joint of gammon in the oven as we speak, it's huge so think it's going to take all morning to cook, we have the outlaws coming over today. I opted out of cooking another so went for the easier of option of a buffet, I'll just get everything onto serving platters and everyone can help themselves, there'll be gateaux for dessert too. Planning a chilled day other than the visitors, we'll see how it pans out.

If I get time I'd like to get my new diary pages into use and all the appointments booked into my diary, will have to see if I get chance.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning everyone, and happy New Year.

It seems to be a nice morning here, a good start to the year.

We went to a friends last night, and had a lovely evening, delicious food and good company.

When we walked home at about 1am, there was hardly any one about, I thought there would have been more people around.

The family are coming this afternoon, but we did as much prep as we could yesterday, so shouldn't be too chaotic.

That's it really. Nice to hear from Holly.

Good wishes to everyone, take care folks.
