Easyjet luggage

Easyjet luggage policy :
I have purchase a bag which has these dimensions BAG DIMENSIONS Length = 210 cm Width = 34 cm Height = 24 cm Which complies with the Easyjet hold luggage criteria on the website.
However I will have ski boots and poles inside it and Easyjet have stated that I have to pay for the extra cost of ski, sports carriage of £74, even though I am only taking this one piece of hold luggage.
What difference does it make if I do or do not put sports equipment in this hold luggage it seems like an excuse to extort money from the consumer.
Also the cost of hiring skis abroad is about €74.
When easyjet told me I would have to pay extra for the carriage they said that they scan the luggage so they would know what was inside ! Easyjet originally said that the ski luggage doesn't go in the hold (not sure where they would put it other than the hold it wouldn't fit in the over head lockers 😂)
They said that it was their luggage policy and that's that, however they couldn't explain why the policy had been put in place .
Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone just put skis in the hold luggage and not tell them ?
why do I have to pay extra 😭

I've always put my ski boots in my main suitcase, though I'm not sure poles would fit in with all the stuff I pack (and I take skis anyway, so they go in there). I think it's only if you take a separate ski bag that you would pay extra as long as you stick to the weight limits.

Your bag sounds like a rolling ski bag. Perhaps that is why they suggest you purchase the sports equipment baggage allowance.

The bag of course goes in the hold although given its size I expect it requires special handling. Ski bags, golf clubs and similar often have to go down what they call the “out of gauge belt”.

Are you taking skis in it as well or just boots and poles?

If no ski's then I would leave the poles at home and use a normal bag.

I normally carry my boots as hand luggage.
  • Hello!!!!

I am having the same problem, apparently you can use a ski bag and fill it with bricks or fire wood that’s totally fine but if you want to put actual skis in it then you have to pay for sports equipment. Seems like total money grabbing to me. Fits under the 275cm and the weight limit so what’s the problem?
  • I also thought the same about not telling them?.....
