Oooh, 42 coupons is a bit more than 29 - but oh, for red shoes, c'mon... is there a woman alive who doesn't really want red shoes????

Red shoes are worth the coupons...

Enjoy your needlecord skirt - and yes, I'm starting to look at warmer weather clothes...

I met the biggest spider I've ever seen in the UK on Friday - it really was only a house spider but GIGANTIC, and although I don't have a thing about them normally, this one made me really jumpy for ages afterwards... so on Sat and today I totally blitzed the kitchen and bathroom and am really raring to keep going... I have paid work to do, for early August, so need to make sure that is a priority, but I reckon I may just have got going at long last... finally, I feel like I'm firing on four cylinders!

I really want to get the ludicrous quantity of clothing I own sorted out. I don't know about getting rid of all of it, but what I would like is for some to be washed and stored, clean, so that I can wear the things I love wearing and they are looked after and hung up or folded and put on the shelves, and not scrumpled up or shoved into an already-crammed space where I can't see them and forget I have them.

I have become impatient with my clothes!!!

this has to be a really good thing, doesn't it?!

I was clearly entirely deluded in boasting about 29 coupons ... I had forgotten the red shoes I bought. I was already on 36 so I am now up to 42 coupons. Re-reading the thread was interesting though, and I was reminded that I bought some needle cord to make a skirt earlier in the year, completely forgotten about that. It's more of a winter skirt but if I don't start it soon it won't be ready when I need it!

42 coupons still leaves you with 24 for the rest of the year. You may still come in as a gold medal fashion-on-the-rationer.

    !
Or Transvestites, for that matter. (Back in February, I encountered a transvestite bloke who was wearing the most gorgeous red shoes. He told me that the site the came from didn't do anything smaller than a size 8!)

Laura, sorry to hear about the dress. Sometimes it's just better to cut our losses and admit defeat.

I have discovered that I am susceptible to two fatal concepts: purchasing rare/discontinued items before the last one is gone and sale prices. In last Friday's email newsletter, Blacker announced that they were discontinuing the manufacture of their Blacker Classic Yarn range and selling it off at £3.60 a ball, starting with the 4-ply. It's 30% BFL. 12 skeins later..... Hello Mr Spiv!

I was on 81 coupons, so that takes me to 93, 27 over. And, yes, it's mostly yarn.

6 coupons deducted from my total, leaving me 45 - not one, but two bras purchased last week! But infuriatingly, one - by far the more expensive of the two - has turned out to be pretty uncomfortable after two or three hours of wear; it fits well, and felt fine in the shop, but started to dig in under my arms after a while and soon became painful. I can't take it back, so I'll just have to try to grin & bear it and just wear it for the odd evening out. The other one is so good I need to fish the box back out of the recycling & order another one online before they stop making that style!

That's annoying thriftwizard, but I sometimes find that new bras are uncomfortable just because they are fitting a bit more closely than the old one. Try washing it to see if it relaxes a bit?

    Hello all,

    How are we all?

I've finished the body part of my latest cardi. It'll need blocking as it's curled. Just sleeves to do and attach.
I did complete a PHD though (Project Half Done). I knitted up a ball of chunky Aldi yarn, mega chunky really, in a soft blue AGES ago, with the idea of making a best cardigan. My subconscious clearly wasn't in agreement so the length has just sat for ages. Yesterday, the muse was upon me, and I've sewn the edges together on one side whilst it was folded in half for about 30cm and it has now become a lovely thick hooded winter scarf - quite impressed with that I must say. Looks quirky and fun - just my style.

Anticipate coupon spending this week on new pants - how boring!

Not one but two more of the comfortable bras ordered, so another 6 coupons deducted. However they're not regretted, because I probably shan't need to buy any more for several years!

I do love the idea of PHDs - I suspect I've got several of those hanging around! But had another idea for using some fabric up yesterday whilst driving towards Dorchester; there's a point where the fields lay just so, and they were all different colours with different crops at different stages, and the hedges were almost black, and - well, that view has to be made into a quilt!

This I love, thriftwizard! I have a memory of autumn sunset light shining across trees in autumn leaf with a dark dark grey sky behind, and that hovers around some of my clothing choices!

I have cut the top off the Cheap Blue Halterneck Dress, removed the zip and sewn the seam, and got the new skirt\'s waist pinned and planned. I need to cut a length of buckram to go in the front-waist, with some black lining on the inside, and to cut two pockets out of black lining and open the side-seams to insert those, and I think it will look better if I turn the hem up with a ribbon or bias binding - it will look nice, but also I think the cheap fabric will hang better.
The dress had the back bodice-panel elasticated with horizontal channels of elastic, so I've simply folded that down in half, so I don't need to faff about with a zip :)

I shall need to buy some ribbon tomorrow, and buttons for my green linen skirt, but otherwise I should end up with two new skirts for no coupons - ones that fit, and have pockets!

I am gradually making better clothes. I used to make things that looked nice on the hanger but weren't always nice on me...

Sounds stunning, Thriftwizard. I'll look forward to seeing the results.

When I was down in Winchester a couple of weeks ago for work, i spotted a beautiful embroidered landscape in a charity shop window. Someone had put hours of work into it and had even signed their name in stitches. It was £20. So undervalued. Sadly, the shop was closed when I went past (5.30pm-ish) or I'd have bought it. (Naturally, I haven't had an excuse to visit that office since.)

Hi all, I have just found this thread and would like to join in. As I am starting half way through the year and have not made any clothing purchases in July...yet! I guess I will have 33 coupons for the rest of the year?
