For dying and from your stash, I assume? What colour are you attempting?

Having spent several hours at Easter charting the damn thing, I’m about to cast on my swatch for Hand Knit Charm from the Australian Women’s Weekly, Saturday 25th July, 1942, via Trove (that wonderful resource of PDF’ed documents from the Australian National Library).

I’ve also finished my latest pair of socks, using the remaining 74g of the Naturally Waikiwi Prints yarn I bought in New Zealand. Less than a gram of yarn remains.

    Erm......... Yes? :o
It'll be greens, blues, maybe some pie for my first attempts I think.
    Although in my defence, I don't think I've got anything that's 100% natural :D

That new pattern looks lovely! I could we that matched with a nice button front skirt - circle skirts I think is what I mean.

In other news, my dungarees are done. This was a sort of experimental pair to test the pattern we created but happy days, they're good enough to wear. They're a thin cotton green, blue, white tartan style. Perfect allotment\land girl look

I've also found an old notebook which is being used to list loom knitting projects I want to attempt and sketching out the plans of how I think they'll work. I can't always find patterns for what I'm after. I have finally got myself organised on ravelry as well with a library there too :rotfl:

Fingers crossed you get a good result.

Sadly, having watched my swatch, that pattern won't work with the yarn. The yarn is a 4-ply weight, 100% Border Leicester wool, woollen spun and consisting of 2 plies. It fluffed up a lot when washed on the wool cycle in my washing machine (the way it will be washed once knitted up), not quite as badly as Gotland but close. Any stitch definition will be lost, although it may work with lace. I really want to knit with this stuff, so I'll have to find something else. Right now, I'm stumped!

ETA: I will knit that jumper (Hand Knit Charm), but I'll use something that will keep its stitch definition, probably some West Yorkshire Spinners Signature Sock yarn, which is worsted spun and does consists of several plies. I have several sweaters-worth in the stash - there's a pink that's calling to me - or I could use the Regia I purchased recently.

Glad to hear the dungarees are wearable.

  • My last lot of yarn coupons went on WYS Signature Sock Yarn - one each of three shades of speckledy-pale... one is just the colours of old-fashioned coconut ice, another is apple-green and off-white, and the third is like a faded Delft tile and off-white - and the off-white is a nice warm one, not a greyish one. The faded-Delft-blue has knitted up into those comfy pretty ankle-socks.

I nearly bought undies in Sainsbury's this morning. Not only did i nearly buy undies which I don't need but I even nearly bought them in the wrong sizes, knowingly, with some vague idea of altering bras and knickers to fit.... idiot...

then i realised I just feel a bit down and "mis" (ie not miserable enough to be the entire word, just a bit of it!) , probably because I slept incredibly badly, so instead I bought a big pot of basil, growing, and sniffed it all the way home, walking a mile in sunshine. Much better than buying undies that don't fit and aren't needed...

PipneyJane whilst I'm envious of the yarn stash, I don't envy the yarn decision making. I'm dreadful with that side of things as usually what I want to use won't work and I becoming a little bit childish with a mental foot stomp LOL

That’s me, too! I’ve spent the entire weekend stomping my foot and going “Grrr” at the swatch. It hasn’t told me what it wants to be, only that anything textured will be wasted on it.

In the meantime, I have to figure out what to make next. I have almost nothing left to knit on the current cardigan project, Gurdrun Johnston’s Audrey in Unst; only the collar is left to pick up and knit. Beyond my sock-du-jour, I’m knit-less!

My WYS stash is almost entirely due to this pair of socks I knitted in their Peacock colourway (number 851) and gave to a friend in 2017. It contained the most amazing colours - the photo below doesn’t do it justice. I fell for the bluey-green, so much so that I emailed them to ask what colour it was. They kindly sent me a sample card and the rest is history....

They do say that collecting Stash and knitting are two separate hobbies. :rotfl:

I’m glad Basil made you feel better. At least you recognised what was driving your actions and stopped it.

I have just finished binding off my loom blanket!
Calculated it at 38,160 stitches. It's currently over our 2 seat sofa and I'm stupidly proud and looking forward to a sofa nap under it on a wet windy day!
    Yarn stash reduced slightly LOL

38 THOUSAND stitches! Wow!!! Well done you!

I’ve just trawled through the 1,586 Trove patterns on Ravelry and I may have found the jumper. It’s called Summer Jumpers are Casual. Originally knitted in garter stitch, there is one completed project on Ravelry and that Knitter says that she did hers in stocking stitch. (Hers looks lovely.)

The only problem I can foresee is that I will probably have to re-work all the numbers. The pattern calls for 3 different sizes of needle, the largest of which is 4.5mm and used for knitting the body. As far as I can tell, the pattern doesn’t quote a gauge tension! However, the Knitter’s project page says that she got 26st to the inch over stocking stitch on 3.5mm needles, so I’ll use that as a starting point and work from there. I don’t know what gauge I got for my swatch - I can’t check it until tomorrow (I’m away from home for work tonight).
