    Oooh goodie goodie coupon-free goodie!

i haven't found my lovely old fine-wool 1940s men's trousers at my parents' house, but I have found the 1000 yards/ 700g of Wendy traditional 100% wool Aran yarn from a jumper Mum never did make m for Christmas 2013!

Free wool with no coupons! :)

If only I could find those trousers...

At least not totally fruitless though

Congratulations on the wool! What colour is it? What do you plan to make with it? Will you make that jumper your mum didn’t or are you waiting to be inspired?

    Pity about those trousers.

I have decided on my next jumper*. I’m going to make Hand-Knit Charm from the Australian Women’s Weekly published on 25th July 1942. (The entire magazine is available free via Trove. God bless the Australian National Library.). All I have to do now is graph the cable pattern, knit a swatch and work out how to make it in my size.

    - Pip

    * No, of course, I haven’t finished my current sweater, Audrey in Unst, but I am about to start the sleeves. That means it is time to consider what I’ll make next.

  • I can sympathise, CAFCGirl. I have very long legs, and many clothing brands simply do not make trousers long enough for me.:(

    I have the exact opposite.
Petite clothing is just about ok in length but the other proportions are way out and short length stuff is still too long, and I'm currently between sizes too it would seem.
The FitBit is back on today :rotfl:

  • I need to check back for my 'coupon balance' but just so I don't forget, I'll make a note here of:

    - two skeins of sock wool, good quality
    - one pair thick brushed cotton pyjama bottoms, reasonable quality, reduced to half-price and of the sort which I do wear a lot.

Greetings from Sicily, where the weather is lovely and I've been dodging the ration by buying underwear (5 pairs of briefs). I feel a bit cheeky though as in 1941 I obviously couldn't have come here at all.
I nearly bought a top as well but did draw a line there. I have so many tops I really don't need more.

    Oooh golly.

March is awfully early in the year to resort to those spivs!

Do you know how it happened? I mean, maybe you now have everything you need for this year?

    (There's always next year! :) )

Well done on the tops! And yes, undies bought abroad don't use up your coupons (although you probably will have to declare them and I don't know what the customs officials will think of those saucy foreign scanties compared to our sturdy 1940s British knickers! :) )

I got beautifully confused on first reading and was trying to remember the Scilly Isles being invaded... then I re-read! :)
