Hi everyone,
Got some money to add:
£14.19 from Paypal
£156 from student loan refund
I wasn't sure whether to include the student load refund, but I had to spend 45 minutes on the phone to them to get it so I'm including it.
I'm trying to get some bits listed on eBay but when you're trying to list a dress from Primark or whatever I'm not really sure it is worth the £3 I will make from the sale. Tempted to take a lot of it to the charity shop, but I'm not sure if that's my laziness talking.I like to make money

My debts are mainly because my partner died and my income reduced by £1500 a month and I've sold what I have, nothing much left. I work as a lecturer but as most lecturers I'm hourly paid contracts seldom get given out so I don't get paid from end of May until October when students are back that's how Universities manage to keep going so the money is good but doesn't add up to outgoings. I need a job for at least another 4 months of the year but nothing in my field and many temp jobs want younger people. So for the last 2 years I have a shortfall of about 5k a year which I need to clear and try not to run up. The only thing I can cut back on is food and heating and I have to try to earn more, thanks for the advice.
sorry to hear about your partner.
If the debts are current, ie not sold to debt collection agencies and are things like credit cards, overdrafts, loans etc. You can write to all the companies involved and explain due to change of circumstances, you are struggling. Would they consider freezing interest and charges for 6 months, to allow you an opportunity to try and clear some of your debts. I have a template from the group I can PM you, if you want to try.
Some companies say no, some are great and agree and even agree to reduce repayments to help you.
As you are a qualified lecturer, if you teach particular subject ie english or maths, you will be surprised how many parents will happily pay £10+ an hour for tutoring their child. Especially near SATs, 11+, GCSE time.
And once you get a few parents recommending you, you would get more work. Something to think about.
Will have a think about whereelse you could utilise your skills. Am sure there would be some online work somewhere.0 -

vinyl I believe sells well on https://www.discogs.com/search/
I have vinyl to sell and took it a local record shop who does buy vinyl. He said all mine was in excellent condition but unfortunately the common type and he had loads already. He did suggest I list it on facebook as a job lot and it should go.
Just spotted discogs buy tapes. I had loads and DH bought me a tape to cd converter. Not used it yet. But some got damaged at old house due to mice in loft, etc. So I won't be able to sell them unfortunately. Unless people will buy without cases.
I had exactly the same result from trying to sell vinyl at local specialist shop:(
Thanks for the heads-up about discogs buying tapes:T:j. I've still got loads of them, some a bit rare/unusual, so will have a look on the website asap. They've all still got their cases and inlays. I still play tapes at home too sometimes. Sadly, even charity shops won't accept tapes any more and I once listed some job lots of them on eBay for practically nothing and I didn't have any interest at all:(0 -
I'm not doing the challenge at the moment, although scrimping and saving like mad to build up a 'new-to-me car' fund to replace my 17 year old car which happily and miraculously is still in excellent nick:j:j:j. But nothing lives forever so I need to be prepared for the inevitable.
I do drop in whenever I can though as lots of the posters on here seem like old friends. :hello: Aesop, by the way. Great to see you back:T
How lovely to see so many new members:j and everyone making such a good start to the year with their moneymaking. Here's to a brilliant 2019 for everyone:beer:0 -
