Recommendations for pressure washer

Options
Any recommendations? They all seem to vary so wildly in price!

I am looking it primarily for cleaning the car but also for keeping the back garden paths etc nice and clean.

I don't want to spend a fortune but I want to ensure I buy a quality item that will last a long time.

I have a Nilfsk for 5 years now use it to clean driveway and car. Think the model was c120.5

Argos sell Nilfsk. I got a car attachment so the spray is more fine and doesn't damage the car.

+1 for Nilfisk, much better than Karcher for anything under £150 imho. There's usually a few deals around this time of year.

One thing useful to budget in is to get a replacement hose, the standard plastic ones on these machines are a real pita so worth spending £30 on a compatible wire reinforced, rubber hose.

    Cheers

150 is about what I am willing to spend. Karcher seem to be the best known brand for power washers, but I have always heard mixed reviews! Not sure what to do... maybe there will be reduced deals in January?
  • Karcher are effectively a group of companies trading under one brand. It's nothing new or uncommon. Essentially they have purchased other businesses to get access to different markets, or buy their product designs and rebrand them with minor modifications.

Karcher used to be reputable and a quality product. But it seems in their haste to expand, they are spending money on finding new products but making them with cheaper components to balance the books.

From the reviews online, it seems that their expanding product range is also causing problems with their customer service team. Lots of complaints about lack of knowledge, lack of action, slow repairs etc.

We have a couple of their professional pressure cleaners at work and well....I'm glad I didn't pay for them. For some of the accessories that we need (flexible lances for example) they charge outrageous prices.
  • A waste of money. Just use an hosepipe and a bucket.

I had a karcher which failed. The manifold that connected the inlet water hose to the main body of the pump developed a hairline crack. The part was £85 from memory. The k2 karcher new was £120.

The crack developed as there is very little support on the manifold to hold the inlet when the hose is being moved around. Plus thin plastic = bad design and bad quality.

I’ve had a bosch one for a year or so. So far so good though not as powerful as I’d hoped.

Whatever you get remember to drain it down - frost and ice kill them, all sorts of parts split. Karcher have been better for me than odd forays into own brands over the years.

Thanks for advice... I ended up going for a Karcher K4 !

It was in the price range and is well reviewed. I will be testing it out tomorrow.

40 car washes and it has paid for itself haha
  • Pressure washers are good for cleaning paths but wont even take surface dust off a car.
I bought B & Q Home brand pressure washer and it was still working like new when i replaced it 25 years later with Karcher, which blew up less than 2 years later
    If I ruled the world.......

I don't know which pressure washers you've been using but any moderately priced one with the correct spray adapter will be more than good enough for cleaning a car.
If a pressure washer can lift grime from a paved area, it will be able to lift grime from a car body.
