This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning, thank you for starting the last daily thread of 2018, Cranky.
I am up after a much better night, feeling more like a human and less like a cross crab.
I really do need to tidy the sitting room today, it is so messy even though clean. Bedlinen to be changed, I've let that go an extra couple of days as I always like fresh bedding on the last day of the year.
Wishing everyone a good new year though I do appreciate that this may not be an easy time for many of us.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all,
I've been up since 5:30 due to a combination of a noisy cat and a hungry House Troll. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I can have a nana nap this afternoon so it's not the end of the world.
My tree and decs were taken down and put away yesterday. The HT is finally old enough and tall enough to be useful. In past years he and I have struggled to get the tree box back upstairs. Yesterday he said "I've got this mum", picked the whole thing up and carted it up to the spare room by himself. I think I'll keep him a bit longer :rotfl:
I'm making a roast dinner tonight and then tomorrow we can just pick at leftovers which is known here as "picnic meals". That means that I can have a lazy day tomorrow and get on with the things that I want to make. I finished the hats for my sister and her friend but I'm in the middle of a crochet blanket for my impending great nephew and I'm also knitting trauma teddies. When I've done a few of those then I have another hat to do.
The gym is closed today so I'm contemplating running in the spot at home. There's no way I'm running round the estate where we live! I do need to venture out at some point though. I have a parcel to post but I'll leave that until mid morning. Our local post office kind of runs to it's own schedule so it can be a bit hit and miss with opening times.
Gers I'm thinking of you and your mum. She must be finding it hard not being able to do all the stuff that her head tells her she wants to do but her body tells her she can't.
Take care all of you0 -
Morning All
The last day of the year, this year has gone faster than normal (or I'm getting old!).
It's been a whirlwind of family here, DD has been popping in and out between work, DS2 and GF fly home today - they've been up north for a few days, and DS1 and the children will be going home tomorrow morning. As much as I've loved having them all I shall be glad when they all go and I can regain control of the house and have a rest. There are toys all over the place, the WM, TD and DW have been on constantly and I'm exhausted!
There will be another little one here all day today, his Mum and Dad are working and I usually help out during my holidays. At least with 3 of them there's a chance they may play together, the park will feature heavily at some point this afternoon.
I hope you are all well, special thoughts to you Gers. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks.
Thanks Cranky - yes, DM is struggling to accept her limitations and I'm struggling with it too. Things will pan out eventually. Meanwhile, this morning the nurse is due to come for bloods. No idea of when so I'll make sure to be up and ready.
The only other plan is to take an unwanted item to the PO for a return. The venison casserole I made yesterday is really tasty, the sauce just needs to be reduced or thickened to make it practically perfect.
Whether I can stay awake for the Bells is debatable, I'm normally deep in the land of nod by 10pm. I may celebrate when Australia hits 2019!
For now I wish all my virtual friends here all the best for the coming year. Thanks for all the support and kind words, they make a huge difference to everyone not just me.

Thinking of you Gers xx
I've just checked the weather forecast, I was hoping for wet and windy tonight but it's going to be dry and calm. Perfect for fireworks, can't wait
Mr tru is complaining about how long I'm taking to sort out the tree bits/twigs/branches (it's in various stages of deconstruction, lol, but almost done) because he suddenly decided he wanted to saw up the big branches right now and wants to take over. Sorry no, this is my job and my idea to do it – he wanted to take the lot to the tip then pay to have chippings delivered - where's the logic in that?! Then he was a bit sulky and moany for the rest of the day. He's been home for one day, just two more to go
Lots of eye-rolling there
As soon as it's light, I'll be out in the chicken run. Things need shifting around a bit and I'm determined to find some eggs, I haven't had any for a while, I think they're laying in a hidden corner somewhereAfter that, a nice hot shower then a walk with Scamp. I'll run the hoover round when we get back, check there's enough snacky food for everyone to help themselves to then sit on the sofa to plan my telly viewing for the next two days

Morning folks and thanks CRANKY for starting us off. I had a slightly marginally better night last night - but only slightly!
It was lovely this morning to come down to an almost clutter free room! I took all the decs down yesterday and had a good old, dust, polish and vac round. Looks so much better. The boxes are in the little bedroom waiting for DS to take up to the loft for me. He said he might be calling in today as his DP is working and he actually has a few days off the treadmill.
I think I am going down to DD's tonight to see in the new year. She says she will pick me up at 8 ish on their way back from panto if I want to join them. Matinee and evening performances today. "Only" another 3 weeks of the panto season to run and the Sunbeams are all still loving it. Not so the mums who are now flagging after their never ending run of being taxi drivers and chaperones. As well as fitting work in as well.
I finally ate the last of the gammon and turkey yesterday lunchtime and got some fish out of the freezer for my supper without feeling guilty for ignoring leftovers! I did enjoy it. Despite my best efforts at trying to get all the sweet stuff eaten by NY there is still some stuff left in the cupboard. Oh dear I shall have to keep on eating it.
My DB and I were reminiscing about NYE when we were kids. We used to go out mumming in fancy dress, with dustpan and brush in hand, knocking on neighbours doors offering the sweep the old year out of the hearth to make way for the new year. No-one either of us has spoken to since ever did this so it must just have only been a tradition for the kids in the locality where we lived. It would be nice to hear of someone else who did this!
Not much planned for today but I am still wading through next year's planner so better carry on with that. Just DD's work rota to put on now and then I can leave myself free for DGD sleepovers when she is on early shift. She is on a 4 week revolving rota and I can't keep track of it unless I have it down in black and white!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them. Especially HOLLY, POPPY and TAFF. My thoughts are also with those with poorly family members too. Life can be so unkind. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Cranky - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work early, but not stupid early, both boys still in their pits, but I can hear movement from DS2's room.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, cauli/broc cheese, peas, stuffing, yorkshires and gravy, just tea or coffee with a mint afterwards. All eaten and enjoyed, mum and dad seemed to enjoy it, without it being too much, as I served it and didn't overload their plates. Tonight we're having curry and I need to buy some chicken for that, and make sure I have enough other bits for the remainder of the week as we get back to work and some sort of normality.
Mum and dad seemed to enjoy yesterday, but when spending prolonged time with them you can really see how much mum's health is declining, she hadn't remembered that they were coming over yesterday, then didn't know when told where she was going, then was asking the same questions over and over - what a horrible illness this is, and obviously will get much much worse. On the plus side though she ate a good lunch and seemed to enjoy the day as did dad, think it was good for him to have the pressure taken off for a bit.
Have several jobs to do today, so need to crack on.
Best wishes for the new year everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, it seems to be a quiet morning here, still dark of course.
I'll be doing a bit of shopping today after I've checked how many (if any) are turning up tomorrow.
I don't mind if no one comes, as long as I know.
Sorry to read you're having to eat all this sweet stuff TA, it must be terrible for you!
I'm fighting a bit of a throat/ear infection which seems to go away then return, I'm sick of it. Strangely, DD has it as well but hers is worse. She saw the nurse practitioner at the docs, who prescribed a spray but she says it hasn't helped. She's gargling with soluble painkillers.
We've always had a tendency to throat infections, she and I.
We have been invited to friends tonight for a meal. They are both excellent cooks, so it should be nice.
Another year nearly gone, how quickly the time slips away. Thinking of TA, Gers and her Mum, Holly, Taff and Poppy, and others who may be ill and struggling to get through the days
All the very best to you all.
Take care folks.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Cranky
Special thoughts for Holly, Poppy, Taff,TA, GERS Mum, nmlc's Mum and all those finding life difficult.
I haven't taken the decorations down, never put them up, only a few cards to bin.
Another year has passed, and who knows what 2019 will bring. I always see the new year as if it is covered in newly fallen snow. It's perfect, not a foot print, not a blemish, and then .....???
Best wishes for the New YearIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning all,
It’s so grey and overcast here today, let’s hoping the new year brings some brighter weather.
I deteriorated yesterday and ended up phoning 111 to get an emergency appointment at a local health centre where I was prescribed antibiotics for this UTI, must admit have never had one before and boy are they painful!
So not much planned for today, we were going out for lunch but tbh don’t really feel up for that and a quiet day at home is on the cards.
Hugs to all poorlies and those struggling, especially Gers and nmlc worrying about their DM’s, take care folks x0
