I say think of the doggies, maybe just give ya first month? I don't mind scamming businesses, animals/charity is different.
I didn't want to do this one either. Surely in order for the charity to still benefit we would have to donate at least as much as we would gain in fact probably much more when administration costs are taken into account. Personally I would only have done it if I was going to let the DD run for at least several months. Didn't see the point as it isn't my first choice charity anyway. If it was NSPCC I would do it as keep meaning to sign up.
Am I wrong here though? Would the money that we get in Piggy points not have come from the charity, or does it come from somewhere else?:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
I am going to let them have the first months payment - my son was made up when he received his "dog" and its for a good cause and I don;t think I'd be able to sleep if I didn't. Anyway I am still 300 points (£3) up so I have gained and the dogs ave gained - maybe just a little but something
we sponser a dog mainly because when our dog died my daughter was upset so she picked out a dog to sponser and she gets cards at christmas and birthdays from him (frank) she gets a newsletter on him every 3 months and even got a valentines card she was thrilled to bits and its worth it for less than a fiver a month..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

Thats why I didn't go for this one either - unless I was planning to do the dd for several months, I think its wrong to sign up to a charity for 1month just to make money from them0 -
If you are all trying to make me feel bad then its working.
You've now had me in tears and I really don't need this at the moment.
If you were in my shoes then you would know how I feel as we are in debt, can;t afford even the mortgage as my husband was diagnosed with bowel cancer just a short while back and things are a mess, let alone paying £4 a month to the Dogs Trust. Yes I feel guilty, but I will pay for at least the 700 points to the Dogs trust but not because you have made me feel like that but because my 7 old year old would be heartbroken if he didn't receive the letters and such and he has been through so much this last couple of months and the letter from the Trust brought a great big smile to his face and he has been busy telling people he has a dog called Harvey. In hindsight I shouldn;t have signed up for it.
I have had great support from the DFW board but will now stay away from this thread because I really dont need to be judged like this.
Thank you all0 -

I'm sorry, I wasn't personally having a dig at you, just voicing my opinion. I didn't know what sitiuation you were in with your husband being diagonosed with cancer, but I think it is unfair for you to say that you will be staying away from this thread because people are not being supportive of you, when we don't even know what situation your in.
I just think it is wrong to make money back from a charity when they are not making as much back in return from the people who are do it. I have lost loved ones to cancer and if it had been another charity i.e cancer research who had been doing the offer, I would hate it to think people were abusing it by signing up just to make 700 points for themselves when the money is really needed
Big hugs and I hope things turn around for you soon

There is always the possibility that PB are paying out the 700pp off their own back as it's a Charity and struck a deal with them to say we will advertise your Charity in the hope of raising awareness, and in return we would like a spot on your sponsors/donations section, or future advertising.
Most Charities are non profit making, and I can't see any administration of any Charity allowing a payment to a third party for introducing potential new income without a guarantee of at least receiving the same or more back.
My guess is that either Dogs Trust send PB a minimal amount (say £1 for each referral) and PB make up the rest. I mean how attractive it is for £7 sign up? Or PB pay the sign up out of their own pocket.
Assume that Dogs Trust perception is that for every 10 people who sign up using PB, maybe only 1 or 2 may cancel prior to the first DD going out.
Working on those figures would mean.
10 People Sign Up (-£10 to PB)
8 People pay first DD (+£34.72) (using £4.34 figure mentioned)
Resulting in £24.72 profit for the Charity for every 10 people.
In no way do I know if this is exactly the situation here, but the general rule of thumb is applied in the majority of Charities.Financial Aims for 2012:
1. To pay off Car loan (£2,163.85 / £300.23 : 13.9%) 2. To pay off Joint OD ([STRIKE]£1,928.53[/STRIKE] / £1,928.53 : 100%) 3. To pay off GF's CC (£1100.31 / £0 : 0%) 4. To OP Mortgage (£1000 / £0 : 0%)
Money Saving / Making in 2012:
1. Ebay (£0 ) 2. Surveys (£0 ) 3. Quidco (£156.45 (Feb 12) ) 4. Lottery (£0 ) 5. Groceries (£0 )0 -
