Unless you are the owner of the website that hosts this forum, I will keep posting if I choose. I haven't deleted anything. I don't drove a Merc anymore - at the moment I am in the Alps. I don't drink and drive at all.Mercdriver wrote: »Probably because you often start umpteen threads of hypothetical rabble rousing nonsense.
It's not deleted.0 -
My wording was off, neilmcl is more accurate - basically if you are pulled over, stop somewhere safe and not obstructing traffic and get your window down so they can talk to you. If they ask you to step out, do so carefully (avoiding traffic). If you start giving them attitude (especially quoting freeman garbage like "do not consent" or asking if they gave an oath to the Queen that morning) then you're going to get a hard time from the police. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

I have two further questions for fellow Moneysavers:
1) If I am traveling in a car, and I am stopped and a police officer asked me to leave the vehicle, and I obliged to do so?
2) If a police officer stops me in my vehicle or on the street, am I obliged to answer a police officers questions?
1) No, you are not but as stated already, you may fail the attitude test so be careful on how you answer. If its a traffic car, they will have cameras inside and they generally ask you to sit in their car so that you can be identified in the future (if you gave false details etc) - also remember that the recording could help you in the future also. Depending on how and where you stop, it may also be safer for the officer as he wont have to keep walking back and forth. If you refuse, it may raise suspicions and rather than just letting you on your way, start to dig deeper - which takes up more of your time at the roadside while you are looked into. Surely, if nothing to hide, the easiest option is just to comply and get it over and done with? You can be on your way and the officer can go back to harassing someone else ;-)
I notice you use the word 'travelling' not driving - the driver would have more obligations to provide ID than a passenger would.
2). No but failing to provide, or provide incorrect name and address if there is a reasonable need to provide it could result in been arrested under certain circumstances - it was S25 of PACE but believe that its been superseded (so unsure if the principle still exists). If this is a real question / issues I would suggest researching it yourself for accuracy.0 -
