Just bought a new laptop (running Windows 10).
On my old laptop, running Windows 8, I used to only use OneDrive for backing up important files. Now this new laptop wants to use OneDrive as a default (so it's now full at 5GB, but I don't want more storage on OneDrive).
On the new laptop I need to use the D Drive for saving files (laptop has HDD & SDD), but the 'This PC' area (showing separate folders for Pictures/Documents/Downloads etc) points to OneDrive. How do I get the 'My PC' area and the D Drive to work together and cut out OneDrive? I want to be able to see files ordered into the Pictures/Documents areas in the D Drive, like I used to on the C Drive of my old laptop.
Hope that explains it in basic terms! (Because I don't know what the technical terms are ....

You can save you files wherever you like you don't have to stick with the C:/User/etc
Mine are in C:/Tom/ where there is one 10GB encrypted file called 'Toms Files' which, using VeraCrypt, unlocks as a virtual drive Z:/MyFiles/0 -
Thanks. I followed the instructions in this link
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-default-save-location-windows-10
however, the 'This PC' folders (Pictures/Documents etc) are still located in C Drive. Everything new I'm adding to the laptop is being saved in C Drive, despite my pointing everything to D Drive in the 'change where new content is saved'. Have I missed something?
I think this explains a little more (although my data is still on C Drive, not D (second drive) where I want it) https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files/pointing-this-pc-folders-to-a-second-drive/e3baea2e-5fa2-477a-afd9-fcc0754d8f390 -
Can you not just use 'Save As' every time you create a new file which is what I do.
I also have a template Word.doc and Excel.xls file in my Z drive where I say everything so when I want a new Word.doc or Excel.xls file I open my template file I don't use the 'New File' option.
Shortcuts to my word and excel files are on the desktop so I just click that to create a new file.0
