Hi Robin9
I don’t believe it has an external frost stat (although I could be wrong as not entirely sure I would know where to check).
What I have noticed though having checked my hourly meter readings again this evening is a fluctuation if the hourly reading (and the boiler was on constantly) of between 1.3 m3 per hour up to 2.1 m3 per hour - does anyone know if this is normal? I guess it’s a long shot but could the meter be reading inaccurately?0 -

Thanks molerat
I wonder if this could be part of the problem then as I’m struggling to see how/why we would use the amount of gas we’re using.0 -
Hi,
I live on a 3 storey 1930's house with poor insulation and draughty.
Initially i relied on the termostat downstairs on the coldest part of the house, but even at 18C the heating would be working most of the day. The water temp output on the boiler was set up for 73C. Last winter it was costing 5/6 pounds a day on gas.
This year i have decided to put down the water temp output on the boiler down to 55/60 and the heating is on most of the day but it heats more gently and spends at least a third less gas. The house is still at a confortable temp.
If you have that setting on your boiler give it a try and see if the house stay at a confortable temp.0 -
Thanks molerat

Occam's Razor. Before looking for the unlikely, it is worth going back to basics. If the OP is talking about a Barn conversion then I assume that any underfoor heating system has been laid on the top of 50/30mm polyurethane? If not, then heat is not only rising but it is also heating the sub floor. I also assume that the property's walls and ceiling are also well insulated? The EPC or buyer's survey should have looked at this.
On a typical radiator system, a condensing boiler will roar away at maximum output until such time as the flow returning to the boiler starts to get hot. Boiler output will then reduce to maintain a flow/return temperature differential. This will continue until the boiler reaches its minimum output. Thereafter, the boiler will cycle on/off.
An underfloor system is often described as one big radiator that achieves a set room temperature at a lower flow temperature than a radiator system. Is the house actually reaching or coming close to its set temperature, and is the boiler output reducing? I have a Worcester Bosch 24 system boiler, and the boiler noise falls away markedly as the boiler output modulates. If the boiler is staying on at maximum output, and the property is not getting unbearably hot, then this means that the heat must be going somewhere. It is either going down through the floor or out through the roof and the walls. This brings us back to the adequacy of the floor; ceiling and wall insulation. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
