  • Android 8 is not a "light" version of Android - it is just a newer version with updated features. I can't think of a single reason why someone would want to stay on an older version of Android.

    It's perfectly fit for purpose.
  • It is a light version, it's been stripped down so entry level devices run smoother and as a result, many apps are not optimised to run on android go. A quick Google will explain. I was aware of this from having had a phone with android go (Nokia 1) so had I known that was what the tablet was running, I would not have bought it. I have a large family and £50 is a lot of money to me to just give up on.

It's Android Go, not the full fat Android 8.

Hi Maxine, I am sorry to hear you had an issue with a product purchased from ourselves. At the time of the details being sent to us about the product it would have been running 7.1.1 but clearly has updated since then due to the automatic update process of Android. We cannot return digital products which are not faulty due to the fact we cannot be responsible for any customer data on the device and due to this it cannot be resold.

In regards to being 'fit for purpose' the machine would still indeed be so as it is would operate perfectly in the way it was designed to do so.

We can only apologise for the error that was on the website as we clearly had not been informed by Lenovo they were now despatching devices with Oreo. I shall pass this on to the web team to get updated. - Mal

Don't tell them it's not fit for purpose, tell them it's not as described. It clearly isn't.
  • If I do have to accept I can't do anything about this, I will attempt to downgrade the firmware to an older version and see if the apps I use will then work. I'd rather not go down that route however as I bought the tablet in good faith, expecting it to be running the operating system it stated. I would not expect to buy a laptop that stated it ran Windows 7 only to find on boot up that it is running Windows starter for example. Whilst I was not expecting great things from a 1gb ram tablet, I was expecting it to run apps that the similar spec kindle fire 7 2016 is capable of running. It can't though, because of the operating system being android go!

No sorry its not a light version at all .I actually have the OS itself opened on my PC .

It has not been stripped for entry level devices it works on very high end devices .
Lenevo may have customized the OS .

Most customers complain about not being able to upgrade.

As you are running the OS on your PC then you will have Android 8 which is as you say, the full functioning version.
However, it appears that the OP has Android Oreo Go which is a stripped down version of Android 8 and is designed for phones and tablets that have 1GB or less RAM.

Yes i can see we where given misleading information by the OP .
But they may well have not known that .

Cannot find any firmware for that rather obscure model either.

the OP said Android 8, not Android Go.
  • The problem with that particular tablet is not that it's been upgraded to Android Go but the tablet itself. Downgrading to 7 won't make it any quicker (possibly the opposite) and if the OP is desperate to run a particular App that doesn't run on Go then I'd hazard a guess that they choose the wrong tablet anyway.
