Carpetright quoting £950 for bedroom

  • You can buy the underlay, grippers, door bars much cheaper yourself online or even in B&Q, to save some pennies. IF you search MSE for carpet there is a fair bit of advice (and Carpetright bashing!)
  • I had a lucky escape when I almost bought carpetright last year .
I was lucky to find a decent builder ,when I was getting my flat done up after moving into it . When he found out I ordered from carpetright , he advised me to get a refund as he knows somebody who would give me a better price . Thankfully, it was on the same day that I told him , so I made up an excuse and got my deposit refunded immediately .
I cannot fault the people at carpetright that I spoke to, and for a moment felt bad cancelling and using this other company.

Good job I listened to mr. Builder , as I managed to get everything I wanted for half price or thereabouts .
Best to shop around ,and get 3 quotes .

Carpets are sold on a sq m basis.

How much does £900 work out per sq m? Use that figure to compare prices.

Once you get above £25 sq m or so you should be into some excellent quality carpet, underlay and full fitting.

If this is a bedroom you don't need a particularly top quality, hard-wearing carpet. I would certainly be getting two or three estimates. Is there a small independent carpet shop anywhere near?

Get measurements, search online for carpet (i.e Flooring Direct). Rolls of carpet come in 4m or 5m width...

Find a local carpet fitter on facebook.... £40-50 fitting is fair.

Underlay - get from ebay (15sq mtr is £40)
Door Bars - get from screwfix / ebay etc
