Transferring husband's debt to my card?

in Credit cards
Between the two of us we've got a few credit cards that are coming to an end. Am I allowed to transfer debt on my husband's card to one in my name (different company)? Or would it need to be in his name?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You can transfer who ever you like to your credit card as only the number is required for balance transfers not the name.
Obviously you should check if you have any offers on balance transfers first or you will pay the interest for the whole balance transferred to your card.0 -
Great thank you!0

Not true - not all companies allow a transfer from a card with a different name - you need to check first before you attempt the transfer.
The same as you cannot do a Balance Transfer between cards from the same group/lender, e.g. HSBC to First Direct, Natwest to Natwest etc etc
And also note that the debt will become yours under your name and will show on your credit history etc.0 -
I've transferred my wifes CC to my CC when ive had decent 0% offers...as others have said its just the numbers and the amount asked.0

agreed with Gary - all depends on which company is doing the transfer - some allow, some dont
i would check first0 -
Unless you can get a very good APR on the BT (eg. 0%), you might be better getting a loan to pay off the card.
I'd compare the APRs (and allow for the BT fee), and go with the cheapest option.0 -
Some cards allow money transfers on similar terms. If you go for this option, the problem doesn't arise. The money arrives in your current account and you can do what you like with it.
You sound like my kind of wife!0 -

The best money transfer deals are not as good as the best balance transfer deals: typically you pay a fee for the former but not the latter.0 -

Not true of many, including Santander. I did a balance transfer to them from another of my cards, and they said that it was prevented by an error suggesting that there was a difference in the name and address between the two cards. Had a lot of trouble and eventually had to go into a branch.0 -
Why would you want to transfer your husband's debt into your name? Can he not get a new CC at 0%? How much are we talking about? Be careful on getting your credit score lowered by someone else's debts, even if it is your husband.0
