Presumably there are no public conveniences within walking distance of the site? If there are, it might be easier to just use these rather than go down the route of any form of official complaint...
No id say the nearest public toilets such as Petrol station ect would be 20 min walk.unforeseen wrote: »As you have a potable water source in a house on site, then HSE requirements are met surely.
No portable water source in a house...a hose pipe is connected in an abandoned house (abandoned house which we have keys to if a contractor needed access) which then runs over the ground to our hut, which in turn feeds a hot water heater which is set to 65 degrees, hot enough to kill germs but also hot to burn you.0 -
You haven't said what it is that you think your employer should be doing the meet what you think the requirements are. Don't forget that if it costs too much to bring things to the standard you want you could end up without a job.
I dont know whats the requirements..thats why i asked here as hopefully someone more clued up than us can explain.
Id expect to go to the toilet and wash my hands in somewhere away from the kitchen area...maybe thats to much to expect.0 -

If that water is direct from the mains in that house it is potable. Disconnect the hose and fill your glass with water.0 -

No that would not work..house is locked as in no access unless contractor.
My question is about what can be reasonably expected in regards welfare,is having to go to the toilet, wipe your behind..open a communal door, turn on a tap at the kitchen sink and then wash your hands hygienic.
Do you poo in your bathroom but wash your hands in the sink where you wash your food/dishes.0 -
I think the question you should initially be answering is:
What changes do you propose?
You see, it sounds like there are physical constraints here and your employer has already had a thought about how to overcome them (for example, it is nice that they've identified the legionella risk and addressed it). So they aren't like an evil Bond Villain here.... They sound like they'd be fairly engaging in a genuine HSE discussion.
But it really doesn't help that you have no clue as to what regulations you feel that they are not meeting, or what changes could rectify the issue.
Sadly, I'm not going to do your own homework here so why not google the laws yourself and start from there? Or, as someone mentioned previously (and dismissed by you), consult a lawyer who will know a lot more about this sort of stuff.
Also have to bear in mind that the cost of installing a gold-plated bathroom with full temperature controlled running water and crystal-lined toilet paper, with the optional marble bath/shower, may cost you your job if the work exceeds the budget. I jest a bit in this paragraph, but in reality getting a decent bathroom installed (even a very basic one) could cost quite a large chunk of money especially if there are plumbing issues. Would be a crappy way to lose a job (pun intended).
Finally, you seem quite dismissive of "common sense" suggestions. That's always a bit of a red flag for me, though it could merely be that the common sense answers are unrealistic. I will throw in another "common sense" suggestion and suggest that you buy some anti-bacterial spray/wipes and give the door knobs/tap knobs etc a spray each day to remove any trace amounts of poo (though you'd be a bit hypocritical if you didn't do this at home too, as I suspect that your friends/family may inadvertently leave trace amounts of poo on door handles etc). Hell, your employer may even agree to provide you with said wipes if you ask nicely0 -

Back in the 1950s, even into the 1960s (and earlier), that's exactly what many of us did! But it wasn't a "bathroom", it was an outside WC and the only cold water tap (no HW) was over the kitchen sink.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Great idea..sadly in the environment i work in thats not always piratical, yes i do as suggested but others dont bother which undoes the work i do.
I raised the issue with my supervisor but he is quite dismissive.0 -

Your generation has also grown up to feel ENTITLED to have those luxury items.
Some people in this world:
1. Don't have access to clean water, let alone a toilet which does not resemble a hole in the ground.
2. Don't earn enough to be able to purchase overpriced tosh (Iphones) which is produced in a way to drip-feed "updates" every few months/years and keep the money-train going.0
