Hi everyone
Thank you Daisy 1571. I think you are right about evaluating what I have due to having to sort my mum's stuff out. Onwards and upwards!
Xx0 -
Just found my notes of what I cleared yesterday:
86-90: ood food
91-92: old cloths binned
93-94: two old cloths for washing down my bedroom walls ready for decorating.
95: phone book recycled
96: t shirt to CS - not my style, why did I buy it?!
97-99: 3x baby clothes to CS- outgrown
100: 1x child's dress up with (not sorry to see the back of that!)
101-106: baby cutlery not needed to CS
107: old lipbalm binned
108: children activity book used up - binned
109: green painters tape uu
110-112: old masking tape beyond use and has been binned.
Painted 1 coat of the ceiling in my new bedroom (we are swapping bedrooms with our DDS as our neighbors are noisy and we can hear them above the soundproofing we installed). Our poor daughters are sharing the boxroom at the minute but at least they are away from the noise of 2 little boys running riot until 10 in the evening!
Hope everyone is well

1. SMALL TASKS WILL BE DONE ASAP
2. I WILL LEAVE A ROOM TIDIER THAN WHEN I ENTERED
3. KITCHEN WILL BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT
4. WHEN DEALING WITH CLUTTER I WILL USE ‘Daisy1571’s idea of ‘WHAT WOULD I DO WITH THIS ITEM IF IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE’S ?’
5. IF I WAS STARTING FROM SCRATCH, WOULD I BUY THIS?
6. BE LIKE A POSTAGE STAMP - STICK TO ONE THING UNTIL YOU GET THERE
Trying againHope I remember :rotfl:
An addendum to Monday night’s ghost story - ‘name69’ had only passed away on Saturday - a touch of The Twilight Zone
Tuesday was a mixed day weather wise - mostly dry but very windy, overcast but with some sunshine. Departed after a full EnglishThe gear change lever started to play up again but we managed to limp our way to our hotel (in the rain
), The Red Lion in Partney, Lincs - 2 miles from where I was born. Large room but single beds:(, bathroom was OK but had a very nice shower. We showered, dressed & went down to dinner in 40 minutes :T We shared a starter of whitebait in tartare sauce - extremely tasty 😋 DH then had steak & chips & I had chicken in a creamy Parmesan sauce with chips, broccoli, carrots, kale & mangetout. Delicious but both of us had to admit defeat & leave some
. Interesting 50 page book in the room - A History of Spilsby, Partney & Langton - full of information & lots of photos. The beds were very comfortable :T After a good night’s sleep we had our last full English breakfast
Had a lovely long chat with the owner before we left - she used to work in The Stock Exchange & had an interesting path to Hotel ownership
Unfortunately when I enquired about buying a copy of the book, she informed us that it was a local lady who had written & published the book with just one print run of a couple of hundred copies & our hostess sold the last extra copy she had a couple of years ago
Oh well no extra clutter & I saved some pennies
We set off quite slowly as only travelling in 2nd gear - it was going to be time consuming trip home
However DH finally managed to get into 3rd gear & because the H*nda G*ldw*ng is ‘magic’ as it can pull away in 3rd gear & get up to 65mph
We got home about 3 p.m. & by the end of the day I had unpacked the bags, put away wash bags, unused clothes, electricals + the bags :T I did 4 wash loads including washing & reproofing our motorcycle trousers. Managed to line dry 3.5 loads of washing & just our jeans needed to be put in td. Everything folded & put away. Strangely satisfying to get it all done so quickly.
For whom the bell tollsSeagull, 2 rook type birds, baby deer
Live wildlifewas sheep, cows, horses, seagulls, wagtails, chickens, magpies, crows, cormorant, blackbirds.
Highlights of Tuesday & Wednesday :- NOT getting blown off the Humber Bridge :rotfl:, meeting up with a biking friend who treated us to a fish’n’chips lunch in Scarborough, DH managing to get the bike into 3rd gear :rotfl:, DSis cooking dinner for us - chicken in a mustard & honey cream sauce, mash & mixed vegetables- delicious & a portion for the freezer :T
Thursday was a mostly dry day with a good breeze which meant I could actually wash, reproof & dry my motorcycle jacket :T Managed to start some decluttering. Chinese takeaway for dinner & enough for Friday’s dinner as well :T

Back to cheerlead - although I have to say you have all been cheerleading very well without me :rotfl:
Well Done Wednesday2000 - keeping up the momentum :T
Good luck with the sales whmf00001Yippee re the new to you freezer
Congrats on your first sale :T
Cazzatheclutterbug, thanks for the info :T Writing down your reasons for decluttering always helpsSorry for the loss of your mum
By the way there are several previous years’ threads re decluttering - If you fancy a read :rotfl: Re preparation - it is surprising how often being prepared attracts good luck 😉You are getting along nicely - bursts of decluttering activity are a good way to go
& listing seems to be a help
If you get into a slump, you can read back & prove to yourself that you can declutter :rotfl: Good start with the decorating :T
MushyPeas - how about setting yourself a mini target of reading & posting every couple of weeks;) Surprising how often the ‘Decluttering Mojo’ goes on holiday & reading along does encourage it to come back - the competitive urge :rotfl:
Congratulations on the new DGS never too old :T & nice to hear that both he & DD are doing well
savvy, I also have trouble with ankle socksRe your mother & step mother - at least you are leading by example
Well Done villagelife :T Useful habit to get into - using up bathroom products :T I have solved that problem by only having one of everything in the bathroom. All the spares are tucked away in my wardrobe :rotfl: so only when something is completely used up does a new one enter the bathroom :rotfl:
Picklepot, I do love Scotland especially the West Coast & The Highlands although the weather can be a bit ‘challenging’ at timesIsn’t it nice when prior decluttering efforts make decorating easier
I do love the idea of ‘fantasy selves’ & you really set the ball rolling. My fantasy self is a knitting demon who can crochet, can make her own clothes, make all meals from scratch, can bake bread, biscuits & cakes, is a healthy weight & fit, can speak several languages, grows her own herbs & vegetables, reads The Hobbit & LoTR every year, decorates her home every 3 years & is Clutter free :rotfl: The real me can knit, makes about 65% of our meals from scratch, I can bake bread, biscuits & cakes (but don’t do it often enough
), can get by (just) in French, grows rosemary & parsley, 1st year of attempting lettuces, peppers, carrots & tomatoes (only time will tell :rotfl:). Oh I am also quite lazy :rotfl:
TamsinC,recycling IS decluttering
Please do NOT rid yourself of all your fantasy selves - they keep you sane :rotfl:
Well Done - choille, Barney1979 & Rootle - :T
RL always seems to get in the way of decluttering Gem-gem :rotfl: but you are back on track :T
Daisy 1571, the Polish map of Scotland was built of concrete by Poles who remained in Scotland after WW2.
Well Done vintageteainmywardrobe :T progress being made on both the kitchen & Book decluttering projects :T
GreenQueen, so many of us with fantasy selves :rotfl:
Well Done on the one in, one out nannywindow :T
Bit more decluttering
1699 - 1709 Magazine, 6 plastic lids, 3 plastic takeaway boxes, plastic bottle - Recycled
Will ‘see’ you all on Sunday as we are at a BBQ tomorrow - I have just baked a focaccia & am donating a small jar of homegrown & home pickled olives

A tidy up and clean resulted in a basic Marie Kondo of the airing cupboard. It does look much tidier and a couple of things sorted to go into recycling bag.
So far
*229 old shower curtain tie-binned
*230 swimming cap-binned.
*231 length of tubigrip- rag bag
DD has got to go through some clothes I released from there to see if she wants to keep them. Also released plastic wrappings to go into the supermarket recycling point.
Things are building up that will need dealing with- rag bag to recycling, items to tip, items to CS.
Also managed to deal with
*232-233 out of date big water bottles x2 (no idea where they had come from).
Didn't want to just chuck them down the sink.. Used them to water the pots when doing the garden. Feel pleased we were still able to put them to good use.and bottles recycled afterwardsDecluttering challenge 2023🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
