Ryanair/Aviation ADR

To cut a long story short, my flight was cancelled from Copenhagen to Stansted back in May. We had to spend a night in Copenhagen airport and spend a lot of money on finding our own transport home. After 7 months of hellish correspondence from both Ryanair and Aviation ADR (prior to their break-up with Ryanair), we received a confirmation from Ryanair via Aviation ADR that a payment had been sent over to refund our expenses for that day (a little under £500).
They said this payment would take ten working days to clear (a long time, I know!). However, low and behold, we have not received anything. Therefore the statement that they had sent the money was just a downright lie.
My question is - what do I do now? Small claims court? I have spent 7 months chasing both companies every week and it is taking a huge toll. I have spent hours on the phone and sent endless letters and filled out numerous forms. I just don't understand how both companies can just blatently lie to you and pretend they have sorted the problem. How is this legal? I have also been informed that Aviation ADR doesn't actually have any legal power over Ryanair so Ryanair can just turn around at any point and refuse to pay. This is despite receiving a Final Declaration letter from Aviation ADR stating that Ryanair now have an obligation to pay what they owe.
Arrgghhh!!!:(

I wouldn't bother with AviationADR any longer since Ryanair are no longer affiliated with them. Chase it up with Ryanair directly.0
