Apple charging for warranty repair

Hi all, hope someone can help me with this.
I have a sim free iPhone 6S which was bought about 2 1/2 months ago and has a fault because people I talk to on phone say I am very quiet and muffled. Took in to Apple shop and they ran diagnostics on it which showed there was a fault with one of the microphones.
I was told that this would not be repaired and they would replace the phone under warranty. HOWEVER because there was a very small chip on one top corner of the screen they would charge the cost of a screen replacement at £145. This does not affect my use of the phone and is not connected with the microphone fault.
Can they really make me pay for a new screen when there is a fault which is covered by warranty.
Thanks for any advice or help.

In a word yes it is in the terms of conditions of the warranty .The basics are damage voids warranty .
Multiple identical posts for all makers.
Warranty is not your consumer rights that is against the vendor of the phone .0 -
So would I have a claim under consumer rights as the phone is faulty which has no connection with a chip on the screen.0

No one can determine that only you can. How much you read up on consumers right act. Also your negotiating skills and how much Apple are prepared to change their mind will all come into play.

Apple has a long history of doing this sort of stuff.
Advice don’t buy Apple...... like increasing numbers of people.0 -

Yes but you may well hit the same reply .
Screen needs removing to fix fault and broken screen / chip may not remove without breaking .0 -

Buy what instead? Android is a no go and windows phone is dead. That leaves you with Apple only.0 -

The same terms apply to virtually all phones, no need to bring fanboyism into the thread.
@Chris Kirkman
The screen has to be removed to work on the phone, if it’s cracked it’s likely to shatter completely or crack even worse as they apply the required force to get the screen to separate from the chassis of the phone.
The manufacturer isn’t going to supply a free screen after that happens.====0 -

And you don't think Apple have been doing the same thing? You can't even take the battery out of an Apple to make sure 'they' can't hear you...0
