This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

beenthere_donethat That's great news, wishing you lots of sales and a big fat bank account in the very near future :D

I've had peace and quiet since 11.30am yesterday and I love it! Scamp is enjoying it too, he's very relaxed. I finally feel like Christmas has started and I'm making the most of it.

Oh Cranky I would love a holiday just for me and Scamp, it'd be fab :D

There's plenty of food left over from Christmas dinner so I'm going to plate it up and heat it in the microwave. Gravy will have to be granules from a tub, but I actually prefer that to homemade. OS sacrilege :D I'll open the Roses this afternoon and munch on those while watching a film.

A banana, satsuma and chocolate coins are on the menu for breakfast today :D

• Good morning all

Didn't get to sleep until about 3 this morning and DH woke me at 5.30.

Need to vacuum today but I don't think I'll have the energy for much else.

Take care all

Morning folks.

Grey damp and almost mild here. Another driech day on the west coast, nothing unusual then.

I'm contemplating driving up to Oban to deposit some cheques for DM. Three PB wins came through at once though it seems that two are from late summer. I went online to check and also changed wins to paperless.

Apart from that there's assignments to mark waiting for me. Think I'll do three a day so I don't get too bored or bogged down. There's no domestic work which needs attendance :j

The flowers I got from a friend havev perked up and my little bowl of dwarf irises have blossomed. Long thin stems with tiny bursts of purple loveliness at the tip. Won't be long until snowdrops start coming up to show us that spring is coming again.

My half hearted lifestyle changes have to go up a gear. I'm way too lazy in between bursts of activity. I'm much more energised in the mornings and slump around 2pm. That's fine in spring or summer when the mornings are light and I can go out. Not so great right now.

I hope that everyone has survived the explosion of tinsel. Now gearing up for Hogmanay next.

Happy Thursday.

Morning everyone

beenthere_donethat - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work early, both boys still in bed although I can hear DS2 moving about, they will emerge at some point no doubt - most likely when food and drink are needed!

I've just finished my porridge and cup of coffee.

Pitch black here still, still feels quite mild.

Plans yesterday didn't happen as we'd hoped, dad phoned just before we were leaving to collect him and mum to say mum wasn't well so they thought it best to have a rain check. I rang at tea time and she was still in bed - where she'd been all day, but said her stomach was a bit more settled. So we've re-planned for another day - we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

At lunchtime yesterday I did us all a share of a baguette - with ham, turkey, salad, cheese etc, then some pork pie, scotch egg, crisps etc - enjoyed by us all. Tea time was similar.

Dinner tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, bubble and squeak and beans. This will use up more fresh bits.

This morning I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society. Once I get back I'll make some sausage rolls and cook the fresh cocktail sausages. I want then to have a proper sort out of the fridge so I can get a clear idea of what we have etc. I've spent so much money on food I really don't want to buy anything else. The fridge is still really full too. I want to be really OS and use up what we have before buying anything else.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning all,

Up early as the cat let us sleep all night last night for the first time in a week (she's just getting used to being an only cat again) but she decided that 7:15 was breakfast time which is fine by us.

I have fat class this morning. I give some friends a lift so there's no excuse for not going which is just as well as it's not going to be good news. On the plus side my bestie called in yesterday and took my Christmas cake (untouched by me) home with him. He'd already eaten his that I took him at the beginning of the month and he likes it so much so it's a win win situation :D The HT has a chocolate cake of his own that he's working his way through.

House is still clean and I'm not taking the tree down until tomorrow so after fat class I'm going for a walk along the prom with my friend to get next weeks weight loss off to a good start.

Take care all of you :)
• Morning folks and thanks BTDT for the start off. Good news for you, well done.

Well stand back in amazement but I didn't wake up until 7.00 (though I did wake a few times in the night) Maybe relief that I have got through the worst of Christmas? It has been a very emotional time with lots of ups and downs and quite a few tears shed but I expected it to be. All the first times without Bob are going to be.

Yesterday at DD's was manic and hectic and chaotic. The same as every year! Dinner was delayed as BF forgot to tell DD that the oven had been turned down and the roasties and parsnips hadn't cooked! We got there in the end, the table was groaning under all the weight and everything delicious. Bob's DB, SIL, Nephew and kids called up for a drink or two in the evening and that was a reminder of previous Boxing Days. So a happy and sad day all round.

A more peaceful day in store today. I must sort the fridge out first job as there is all sorts dumped/piled up in there and I don't want to waste anything. I then have the day to myself until the DGDs arrive for sleepover (DD on early shift tomorrow) the eldest will be here first, followed by the late arrival of the two panto performers who have an evening performance today.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking of HOLLY, POPPY, TAFF and anyone else going through treatment/recovering from ops. Take care all xx ps life must be getting back to normal I have just heard the waste collection lorry outside! I had totally lost track of the days so a good job DS had remembered and put it out last night!

• Good morning all, seems mild here as well, like yesterday.

Thanks beenthere-_done that, for starting off.

I'm in an OS frame of mind myself, well I always try to be anyway. My storecupboard is bursting from when I've taken advantage of special offers, so there's that, and I've got £100 on an Ic*land card. This is handy for frozen fish, and I like their large bags of low fat mince. It's a start. I would like to get through January at least just buying mainly veg and bread,. We'll see.
I sliced the remains of the sirloin that we had on Xmas Day and that's in the freezer.

Hope everyone's had a good Christmas. Our was quiet on the day itself, we had seen family beforehand and will be seeing them today.

We are going down to York tomorrow for a couple of days to meet up with Australian friends who are here for a wedding. We haven't seen them for nearly 2 years, so it'll be good to see them. We are staying in aTra*elodge near a park and ride so that'll be handy.

I spoke to one of them last night and they were surprised at how early it got dark! They have never been to the UK in the winter before.

Anyway that's enough waffle from me,thoughts to those who need them

Take care folks
• Good morning everyone, it was great to be back in my own bed, and a couple of pitstops didn't mar a reasonable night's sleep.

I too feel the need to get out for some fresh air today. I'll do that after I've hoovered around. I'm going to a board games day at a friend's house tomorrow and need to think what to take as my contribution to the lunch table. I need a spare key cut too. I have a gift from my aunt, two sizes too large for me that needs to be returned to M&S but I'll wait for a week or so.

TA, I so admire your spirit, getting through Christmas and doing your best for your family. Hugs for all whose days/nights are less than wonderful right now. I hope you can have the best day possible today. xxx

Morning everyone,
By the look of the number of cars on the bypass a fair few folk are going back to work today, luckily that doesn’t include my beloved. We have DB, SIL, DN and her bf coming to lunch today, both SIL and DN are vegetarians so I am doing a butternut squash and goats cheese baked risotto which will be a welcome change after so much meat over the last few days, for the die hard carnivores there will be a baked ham.
Made one purchase in the sales, a pair of muck boots for DOH after he moaned about wet & cold feet when we got home from our walk. I use my MB most days in the winter months and my feet are always cosy & dry.
Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of our poorly friends, those caring for loved ones and those grieving xx

Good morning,
Grey, but dry here today, gym first thing then a dash home, eat something and head off to meet with family to eat out.

I am looking forward to it, but wish that I did not set myself such tight timings, knowing that I will be wiped out tomorrow:)

Another one needing to stock take the cupboards and fridge, we didn't buy masses of stuff, but don't like waste. Celery and Cauli Cheese soup made yesterday, used some blue cheese which needed eating, tastes pretty good and portions for the freezer, beef needs cutting for freezing when we get back.
