Tesco Mobile - Balance Disappeared

I have a Tesco mobile phone which I rarely use. In early November, I switched it from the £5 Rocket Pack tariff to the Pay as You Go Lite Tariff as i saw no point in topping the mobile up every month if it was not being used. I topped it up with £10 which I hoped would last me a while. I checked the balance and the money had been credited to my phone and i had definitely switched tariffs.
I have not used the phone since and when I checked the phones balance today, it was £0. There is nothing in the call history which shows how the money could have been taken and I have received no texts about it.
Can anyone give me an explanation about what happened to the £10? Are there any hidden charges on the Pay as You Go Lite Tariff, maybe if the phone is not used for a while or is there another reason for this? If this is going to happen every time, I may as well go back to the old tariff.

I have managed to contact Tesco Mobile and I believe it was the phone downloading background data which used up the balance.0

At 10p per MB £10 wont last long if the phone has mobile data active.====0 -
FYI, you can actually turn off mobile data in settings which may avoid this in future, hopefully, Tesco Mobile have already explained this to you.0
