My reduce financial complexity objective is not going well since the new year - I now have one new credit card (for DD car) and 2 new bank accounts (one for work and now a new one in preparation for a switch later). I just can't stop - my OH complains she wouldn't know what way was up if I got hit by a bus - but we do have plans

Thanks !! - Do have a system of sorts, but need to be a bit surer its up to date. last thing anyone needs is to try and unpick others messed up systems when they really need it

same is true of our decluttering agenda - personally I can live with the clutter but would not want all the (not so) little ones extending their grief by having to sort out 20 years of mess (albeit a good chunk is from them it has to be said)

Nothing to do with MSE exactly, but it is quite a female dominated forum (I think, I may be wrong of course) so we hear about many men who have left families in very difficult situations. That is predominantly why some of them are here. So, it is so lovely to have posts by such a lovely dad. OK, I am sure you are not perfect, who is? But you come across as a thoughtful, caring dad/uncle and that is more important than all the MSE stuff really. Just saying.

Thank you DIA that is very touching.

Probably true about this forum having more female posters - most men dont ask for help when they get lost - I do suspect the parking ticket forum is male dominated - lots of testosterone there.

Also completely true about not being perfect! Speaking of which forgot my packed lunch again so didn't have a NSD.

Also had a very aging experience at work when I was mentoring our graduate intake today, when I realised my career was half as old again as they were.

My choice today was NSD or Valentine's gift - that was a toughie (until I realised I was a softie) - OH favorites are yellow roses luckily they had a nice bunch for under £5 and some reduced (not YS) chocs :-)

couple of days silence as I got my work finshed off, and got myself OH and DS2 down to the seaside on Friday. DD1 and her BF will join us soon which will be interesting as the holiday cottage is more bijoux than expected - but we have a lovely view of the harbour and even a 1foot juliette balcony you can actually stand on and be outside which is sweet.

money wise we are mainly self catering but there will be fish and chips and a sunday lunch and at least one pasty - the secret to not spending a fortune is to have coffees and a good breakfast at home then I can avoid unplanned temptations as we wonder around

we blagged an extra day (and a free english breakfast) as we stayed over nearby using a hotel reward voucher from all my work stop-outs. which was nice

as I finish typing this the sun has come out after a cloudy start to the day so that bodes well for a little walk later

  • Seems a good balance of thrifty and treat.

The sea air does us all good.

When I am away I tend to eat a big breakfast to protect me from more costly indulgences too :)
