  • mumof3 - congrats on the new job and house :D

I feel quite positive money wise at the moment. Manged to rein myself in when in town the other day and put so much back that I would usually just buy because I liked it not needed it. Saved £5 last night by dropping a course for dads b/day meal and probably another £10 by ordering tap water instead of coke for drinks.

I finally feel like I am learning the value of money!

Went shopping on Thursday and stuck to my list 100% the only things I bought that wern't on the list were some YS meats but used vouchers to pay for them and ended up with enough for another 6 meals basically for free! So I am pleased with that :D

Evening all, we have had a steadily busy but relaxing day. Started the morning watching a film with the kids. Then I visited my nana and went food shopping. Kids grandma popped over (my ex mil) we then did some baking after she left, made some shortbread the best we have ever made so far. Made dinner , put some laundry on I've washed up more times than I can count. Kids played in the garden I enjoyed watching them all play together while enjoying a cup of tea. My grandma visited we ate dinner. All the kids have been bathed and the two youngest are in bed. Eldest has been reading and I'm going to watch a film once he's n bed. Only spends today was the food shop. Also spoke to my dad on the phone and spoke to my brother over text.

    Today I'm grateful for
    1. Seeing my grandmothers
    2. Having the day off and spending time with my kids
    3. Being able to pay for the food shopping

Have a good evening all :)

  • I loved your post. You can't buy these things. We often make some food at home, walk to the park and just watch the kids. It is priceless.

    Morning everyone,
    Hope you are all well.
    Yesterday was a NSD.
I went to see my dad and brother yesterday and eldest went on a bike ride with my dad.

The two boys have gone off to school. I sat and had breakfast with DD .
We are going to the library soon to get some more books.

    My 3 g's for yesterday
    1. I'm greatful for my car. (Makes it easier to see people, especially as some days I struggle to stand and walk)
2.im greatful my son took the news of moving so well.
    3. I'm greatful for music (it makes me feel good)

    Today's g's
    1. I'm greatful for our library. (We are going there today to get some more books to read)
    2. I'm greatful I live in a country where my children can get an education without me having to spend thousands of pounds.
    3. I'm greatful for my hair straighteners. (I woke up this morning with completely wild hair after going to bed with it still damp).

Have a great day everyone. We are visiting the library doing housework and possibly going to the park with the kids later if it stays dry

  • Just had a bit of a catch up. Getting towards the end of the month and I currently still have £20.00 left. Pay day is on Friday but I still have food left or ingredients to make food so I am pleased with that. I haven't had many no spend days this month at all but the things I have been buying on those days are small things that I have needed. I prefer to buy as I run out so that I don't overspend or waste food by buying loads too early before it is needed. I have discovered something that stops food going off which may be of use to others. I wanted to us a small amount of a avocado but if you peel and cut it all up before needing it goes all brown and horrible so I cut the top off and placed the cut side down on a plate in the fridge. When I went to use it again it was still good. I have tried this with a cucumber I bought to see if it works with that as well. Hopefully it does. This should save on wasting the food and stop the need for buying cling film or plastic bags which I have stopped doing due to environmental reasons.

The next thing I am going to do is to make my own muesli. I am lucky enough to have a refill shop just open near me that sells some dried goods such as nuts, fruit and beans. I found a suggested formula online for a muesli mix and when my next lot runs out I will try and make it and see what it is like. This should save me some plastic again and hopefully some money as well. It will also be healthier because I won't be adding any "bad" stuff to it.

I got some seeds at the weekend and spent some time getting my allotment up together. I like rocket so I have put some seeds in to see if I can save waste and money by growing some myself. I also have beetroot, chard, radish, tomatoes, peas, green beans, spinach, onions, broad beans (although I was late getting these in so they may not grow large enough in time), parsnip, courgettes and potatoes. It will be interesting to see what I manage to harvest this year. It can be a bit hit and miss at times but I am really putting more effort in this year. I must put my sweetcorn and runner beans in next weekend.

I was involved in a charity event at the weekend and entered a raffle. I never win anything but I won a family ticket for a day out at the Army Flying Museum. That will be a nice day out with minimal cost if I take a packed lunch. I know I had to pay for the raffle tickets but it is going to a good cause. Its nice to win something I can make use of.

Another financial positive is that I sat down and worked out my budget over the next few months and realised I may actually be able to save some money towards a holiday. I haven't been able to do that for a long time. I visited my bank and asked about savings accounts with decent interest rates and because I was a long standing customer they have opened an account for me which is 1.4% which seems quite good when comparing what is out there. It is a limited access account so I will make sure I put some in there and keep some in another higher interest account with easy access just in case an emergency crops up.

That's it from me today. Hope all is going well with your individual money saving goals.

I'm back from my holiday and organising money for the next month.

I get paid on Friday too :)

My car needs some work doing to it for the MOT in July, shock absorbers so it's going to be expensive. I'm hoping to claw it back from the budget over the next couple of months rather than dip into the emergency fund, so we'll see how that goes.

I also have 2 birthdays in June and a birthday day out that I still need to do with my DD who's birthday was in March.

I'll sit down on the weekend and work out exactly what needs to be spent where and get a plan together.
