OS Daily Boxing Day 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning :)

Happy Boxing day all :D its the day of leftovers and awful films ...perfect

I on the other hand have been up since 2am but this time for nice reasons not insomnia. Waiting on my friend to arrive then getting picked up for the airport at 4.30. As you all start posting I will be leaving UK airspace with any luck ....drones allowing of course.

Feels odd I have 2 jumpers, a coat and some gloves on and a case full of summer stuff :T

Yesterday was just lovely with my bestie and her family ....food enough to sink the titanic cooked by someone else so even better and then games, karaoke more food and just to finish off a few glasses of bubbles :)

Have a fabulous new year and if I can get on wifi il drop in to say hi. stay safe everyone and party like its 2019 :)
• Have a great time Nelski!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Morning folks. NELSKI is probably way up high by now but hope she has a lovely holiday. I seem to have missed where she is bound for, other than somewhere warm.

All is peaceful outside with a mild and dry day forecast. The severe frost of Christmas Eve night never returned thankfully.

I am reasonably organised for our postponed Xmas dinner down at DDs. The tuna pate is safely stowed in the fridge and the Beef Bourgignon left cooking overnight in the sc is smelling lovely. Just the gammon and the turkey to cook this morning, and a big jug of gravy, then DS is calling up to help me transport it down to DDs in time for lunch. Currently timed for 1.30 but, if previous years are anything to go by, it will probably have to be delayed when she isn't organised! There will be 9 of us dining. My beautiful star candle will be going back down with me!

I hope everyone has a lovely day but, as always, there are copious (((HUGS))) for those who are not. Take care all xx

Morning :santa2:

Have a great time Nels :D

Well that won't be happening again! For the last few days everyone has done whatever they wanted at a drop of a hat and expected me to stop whatever I'm doing to fall in with them. I'm not talking about selfish things (you all know I like my me-time, lol), I mean things I can't change - not going out right now, for a couple of hours, when there's a gammon in the oven that will be ready in 45 minutes. Things like that. All. The. Time.
Master tru telling us his GF is vegetarian at the last minute, him trying to rule the house the second he steps through the door and starting a row when he can't get his own way, somehow making out that it's your fault.
Ignoring doggy rules, inviting yourself round because the person you wanted to see is visiting us at my house (who does that?!) and generally being a PITA (plural – PITAs?). I finally snapped last night, over a cup of tea! Someone made tea and coffee for everyone except me. I won't tell you what I said, but it wasn't pretty. I suddenly felt exhausted after my rant so went to bed, leaving the kitchen in a right state – I just couldn't face the mess and didn't care by then.

I've been awake since 3.30am, I walked into the kitchen and was pleased to see that it had been cleared up :D I'm looking forward to lunchtime, when the only people that should be in the house are the people who live here. No-one else is welcome. I feel like my Christmas is finally about to start properly. I'll put some washing on and do a general tidy, then I'll sit and do nothing all day. Food will be little plates of leftovers, there are no set mealtimes, just eat whenever I feel like it. Sausage rolls will make it onto each plateful, lol. I'm starting my day with a banana and an iced mince pie :D

• Good morning fellow OSers, I hope your day went as well as you could have hoped for yesterday. Tru, no wonder you spoke your mind, I hope you enjoy a much more relaxing day today without yesterday's vexations.

Glad to read Nelski sounding so upbeat and happy as she heads off to somewhere nice and warm.

TA, have a lovely family day today. The food sounds fab.

I've had a lovely quiet time with my aunt, but she needs a rest and I'm heading home later on.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. xxx

Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Tru - sorry your day yesterday wasn't great, but I completely get what you're saying, those people that don't have anything to do with the organisation and preparation have no concept of how much hard work goes into making it enjoyable for everyone. Sometimes I think everyone stuck indoors with too much food and drink is a recipe for disaster! There's always going to be personality clashes etc, hopefully today will be more peaceful for you x

Still pitch black here, hopefully not so cold.

DH and I enjoying first peaceful cuppas, boys still in their pits, not expecting to see them yet.

Our day was quiet but good, boys did very well as usual.

Mum and dad are coming over today, DH will collect them just before lunch, I'm just doing a buffet of cold meat, cheese selection, sausage rolls, pork pie etc.

Have a good day x

Keep safe and well x

Good morning all.

Thank goodness that's over for another year! I can hear a collective sigh of relief coming out of my tablet. Christmas does seem to bring out the worst in some people. Others, I know, will have enjoyed a fabulous time.

Tru - such rude behaviour is really unacceptable, I'm not surprised you snapped.

TA - you sound so organised so early in the morning. Have a lovely day.

My Christmas was the usual, only worse. DM was especially difficult, didn't comment on two big jobs I had done very early and then became very demanding. The friends who had invited us for dinner are both docs, the husband a consultant in care for the elderly. DM insisted on asking him to come over and assess if she was fit to go out! At that I decided to stay here, gave my polite apologies and waved them off. Luckily the chap is very fond of my DM and extremely understanding. I roasted a small joint, opened a bottle of wine and watched Strictly.

Now it's the bit in the middle, waiting for Hogmanay. I'll be going home later this morning.

Happy Boxing Day folks.

Good morning all,

Our Christmas was good and fairly peaceful. I had way more presents than I expected and they're all lovely, thoughtful gifts. I've been very lucky. I need to have a quick hoover round upstairs as the HT's new slipper socks have moulted a bit. A very happy cat was brought a lovely new cardboard box by our surprise visitor so catface spent a lot of time sitting inside it looking smug :rotfl:

I spent a while chatting on Sarah Millican's #joinin yesterday. For me it's being sociable without having to leave the house or being "overpeopled" and if chatting helps someone else in the process then even better.

Tru I'd book a nice holiday cottage for next year just for you and Scampi.

I hope that Nelski has a great holiday and that the rest of you are able to do as you please today and relax. Take care all of you :)
• Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nelski, though no doubt you won't see this.
Hugs to everybody in need.

Another one here who is glad it's over, we don't do presents for each other so the only excitement yesterday was trying to cook the lovely meal my chef son in law had prepared for us.
I have been telling CHS since we bought the boat that there is something wrong with the oven but I have learned to adapt to it's vagaries. Yesterday I couldn't CHS wanted his meal at lunch time instead of in the evening, it should have been ready at 1 but it wasn't when I told him it was going to be late he had a meltdown about taking his medication and then another one about how he was supposed to source a new cooker on Christmas day.

Today I'm faced with trying to rescue what food I can and binning the rest and I hate wasting food.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
