SA - UK - SA flights much cheaper than UK -SA UK

Just playing about on the internet, while my wife works

She is actually from South Africa

If somebody books from SA to fly here then return almost all the 'normal priced' options are far cheaper than the other way round

Why is that ?

Would it be possible for somebody to book a flight, from a South African website to get a better deal ?

It is just supply and demand. More demand from an airline to fly U.K. SA U.K. than SA U.K. SA. The airlines will charge what they feel the market will pay.

Often you see BA offer a lower fare departing from continental Europe and routing a connection via LHR then on to the USA, than if you booked the flight originating and ending at LHR. Not logical but they are trying to tempt business to their airline from overseas customers and departure points.

Air Passenger Duty would be paid on all ex U.K. flights regardless of purchase point. It is currently £78 in economy on a U.K. SA routing.
