It's been extremely stressful as two year olds and head injuries don't mix very well, we've already been back to have it re-glued for a second time, so i've been having to watch him constantly. My dad has also been in hospital so it's all been going on. Everything has been on hold for a while but i'm just starting to get back on track with things now. It's my dad's 70th in two weeks and we're going over to visit, so I have to get everything we need for Christmas ready to take up there then as we won't have room in the car for everything at Christmas time so I've got to get on with some wrapping! Anyway just popping in to say hi, sorry I haven't been able to catch up so I hope everyone is ok and I hope to get back on here a bit more now as I love all the Christmas chat.
bless him hope he's finally on the mend - but yes head injuries and kids do not mix well - I still vividly recall the time my eldest bounced of the bed and split his forehead open  so much blood for what turned out to be a fairly small cut
Hope your dads doing ok toothis year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk0 -
Hi everyone,
Just popping back on. I last posted back in the summer. Daughter's awful schooldays are now behind us. Astonishgly and against all odds she passed all her GCSEs, so doesn't need to do any re-sits and got straight onto a level 3 course which she's enjoying. :j
Once she settled at her new college, I looked for work and have just been offerred something, it's temp and part-time, 1 full day plus 3 mornings. Ironically I'd have killed for those hours when kids were small, since then I got used to f-time wages, but it's something for now.
I'm just about coming to the end of xmas shopping for outside of this household. A lack of ideas and cash (!) meant I've gone for mostly make up my own hampers this year and then I couldn't find any boxes to put them in. I see others have been asking similar. I ended up finding some yesterday in a shop in McArther Glen (name escapes me, sorry!). Definately been harder to source this year. I'm hoping to ensemble them all later today.
As they're 18, this is the last Christmas I buy for my Neice and Nephew (twins), I wanted something that would be used for a few years. Found some 'leather goods' in TKMaxx, a passport and luggage label for Neice who holidays abroad with her boyfriend a few times a year and a card holder for Nephew, who will be commuting to Uni from the Autumn and will need travel passes. Both were nicely boxed and the Ted Baker brand and would have cost a lot more in that store. If you've got difficult to buy for teens or family members who love their brand names, I highly recommend that store. Sometimes you do have to rummage a bit. I took DD with me who is good at sniffing out the bargains. It did cost me a tenner in finers fees though as a bracelet she just couldn't live without found itself into my basket:rotfl:
Both my 2 kids had 'Mickey Mouse and the Apprentice' sorcerer's hats from Disney as stockings from being young. Son outgrew his as he went to Secondary school and I got a knitted one from M&S in a Jan sale for a few quid. Daughter always refused to upgrade her childhood stocking, which was frustrating as I could always fill hers 3 x over and would have liked a larger one. At the beginning of the year she finally decided hers was now too babyish and requested a new one. What she doesn't know is I bought the Victoria's secret fluffy black one she'd had her eye on back in Jan. It was reduced from £30 to £10. I'd just lost my job and it was an expense I could have done without but so glad I've got it now. No way would I have spent £30 on it.0 -

Welcome back SPENDLESS and congratulations on the new job. So good to hear that things are going well for DD now, it must be such a weight off your mind.
PRINCESSKITTY sorry to hear about Squeak, hope everything stays in place this time and hope your Dad is ok and you have a lovely visit.
AIMEEMUM I’ve not seen the mugs from Funky Pigeon but you can sometimes get some good offers on mugs through Groupon or Wowcher..
Everyone looks to be getting on well with the pressie buying. I’m almost done and mostly wrapped which is a relief. My plan is to get the decs up next weekend - I’m focussing in outdoor ones this year because of having the kittens who will massacre anything they can reach indoors. Luckily I have a tallish Acer outside my front window so I’m putting lights and baubles on that to make up for not having my actual Christmas tree this year. I’m also focussing on ceiling decs indoors in the vain hope that they get left alone. Getting kittens in late summer probably wasn’t my brightest idea ever but hopefully they’ll be sensible cats by next Christmas and things can get back to normal.
I should have been going to the Ideal Home Christmas Show at Olympia today but plans have changed. DD2 and DGD are coming to me instead and we’ll have a ride over to o e of the garden centres that has a nice Christmas display instead. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
Welcome back those who have been absent for various reasons.
Spemdless so glad things are now better for DD and it sounds like you're on top of the Xmas stuff, great finds in TK Maxx. We stopped gifts for DN & DN (*6) when they get to 18. Still 5 'little' ones who range from 8 downwards so a few years of those yet.
Princesskitty sorry to hear about Squeak, head injuries are horrible. I remember a girl at school when I was 6 impaling her forehead on a hexagonal table (she was running and slipped, we'd been told not to run so teacher was not overly sympathetic) Hope it heals this time without any more revisits.
Aimeemum Photobox often have Black Friday deals on too, although I got some prints from them last year and they weren't as good quality as the likes of B00ts. I have got some photo books from them before which have been good though so perhaps their merchandise is better than their prints.
Well I caved and picked up the ridiculously expensive Sprout tags tested (got 20% off so cost me £1.60). I did also see some sloth ones which would have been perfect for the bags for my 2 * DN, but I've already written their tags and it's another £2 so I've decided I'll stick with what I have..unless they are reduced before I see the girls.
Also a tad cross that I'd bought the treeslets and twiglets in lidl a while back thinking I was getting a good deal at £1.75 a tub...only to see them now in Sainsburys at £1.50. I know it's only 25p but still irritating.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

mandco that is exactly what Squeak did, and you’re right, so much blood! I think we were in shock for about a week afterwards.
Spendless that’s fantastic news about your DD and her exams, you must be so pleased she’s now on a course she’s enjoying. Congrats on your new job and shopping bargains!
Thanks Peppa. Yes you’ll have to get those kittens trained by next year!
Kerri yes I’ve heard lots of horror stories from people since Squeak did this, it’s amazing how often it happens. I get like that too about finding things cheaper, I’m trying to learn to let go! :rotfl:0 -
So despite everything going on I’m managing to push forward with Christmas preparations, still got some things to buy so I’ll have to plan some shopping trips soon. I’ve got Christmas radio tuned into my kitchen and car radios and even DH is enjoying it! I’ve been desperate for over a week now to set up my hot chocolate station but we’re in the middle of painting our dining room which is where I have it, so we need to get on with it! Hopefully I can set it up in the next couple of days. I’ve been wrapping presents to take to my parents on the 7th and Dec and I’m going to start writing my Christmas cards in the next couple of days. A couple of weeks after I originally planned but you don’t know when toddlers and accidents are going to happen!
I was reading an article in my magazine last night about what people’s favourite day is over Christmas, and it got me wondering what all of yours favourite day is? Mine is definitely Christmas Eve, I do enjoy Christmas day but for me you can’t beat the anticipation and magic of Christmas Eve. Do you have any traditions on your favourite day? I love hearing about other people’s traditions! :rudolf:0 -
Definitely Christmas Eve for me PRINCESSKITTY. DD2 and DGD arrive to stay til Boxing Dat (with new DGS this year), there’s all the anticipation of the big day and Rosie elf leaves DGD’s Christmas Eve box. Late evening is usually spent doing DD2’s last minute wrapping and eating chocolate. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0

Definitely Christmas Eve here! Early evening, once everyone is in the house and we've got to the point where "if we don't have it now, we don't need it", mulled wine in hand and we settle down to watch Elf as a family, only lights are from the Christmas tree and it's just magical!0
