The xmas tree is assembled ready to decorate :D though I've spent most of the day rescuing the cat from it so that should be fun this year. I've lost a whole box of tree decs  so need to hunt those down tomorrow ready for the weekend honestly have a brain like a sieve lately.

Finished dgd presents so that's another ticked off.

Took 2 bags of toys to the charity donation station today so that has freed up a little space something I'm rapidly running out of for storing all the xmas bits.

I do love xmas eve and it used to be my favourite day but now I kind of feel like its boxing day. I think for me its because Taz finds the build up to xmas very overwhelming xmas eve is the time he is most likely to have major meltdowns. All the things we love the anticipation and excitement for the next day just become too much for him to cope with and so I never know what kind of day its going to be and how many of the things we plan we'll actually get done. Boxing day once all the presents are open and things have had time to settle its much more relaxing and we get better quality time together so I do look forward to that more.
this year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk

I love Xmas Eve too, with the build up to the next day. TBH I find Xmas day can be a bit much, I don't cook for many but still don't want to burn the dinner and with all that, then clearing up and rushing about I often think I could jump straight from Xmas eve to Boxing Day quite happily :rotfl:

Dropped a couple of bits off in a toy / gift collection box in JS today too, brand new obviously but just things that had been sat in the car boot pile. Sure I have a couple other bits too that I thought of the other night whist in bed but can't for the life of me think what they were now.

Really struggling with that to buy for my son this year!! Pretty much sorted for my daughter but my son is a struggle this year.
  • Peppa I love that you’re wrapping DD2’s presents late evening on Christmas Eve! That sounds like my DH! :p

Skibunny oh that sounds lovely watching Elf by Christmas tree lights!

mandco oh I can completely understand why Boxing Day is your favourite day, it’s made me realise how much we take for granted sometimes like enjoying Christmas Eve. Boxing Day is a lovely day too as it feels a bit more relaxed and you can feel a sense of achievement that you pulled Christmas Day off! I love it in my house because there’s no real cooking to do here, we just graze on a buffet all day.

kerri I know what you mean, there’s always a lot going on on Christmas Day! And when you’ve got young children there’s no option to snooze on the sofa after the Queen’s speech! :rotfl:

Penguin how old is your son?

Hes 12, really into football. So have got him a new Manchester United training shirt, a football, he has tickets to go to Bounce Below in North Wales next year...
  • I forgot to mention on here that I went to the Christmas Market and for afternoon tea at Waddeston Manor (a National Trust site) a couple of weeks ago, it was really lovely and felt very Christmassy. :xmassmile The afternoon tea was wonderful, if anyone lives close enough I’d definitely recommend it. I bought some lovely cheese (Worcester sauce & shallot) and some delicious brownies from the market.

It’s all go here this week as I’m on the school PTA and it’s our Christmas Fayre on Saturday, so lots of prep being done. Before Wiggle started school I was adamant I’d never be on a committee and now I’m the secretary of the PTA! :rotfl: I’ve since realised though that actually it’s not a group of pushy mums but really lovely people using their spare time to raise money for the school. It’s hard going at times as we have very little help but worth it when we make a difference to the school and improve things for the children.

So my hot chocolate station is being set up tonight, I had to finish the painting in the dining room and I tell you I’ve never been so motivated to paint! :p I can’t wait for Wiggle to get home from school and help me set it up. I’ll post a pic if I can. I’ve also got plans in place for a ‘North Pole Breakfast’ on Sunday morning and then we’ll spend the rest of the day putting the tree up and decorating the house. :xmastree:

Do any of you buy a special outfit for Christmas day? I always used to like the idea of it but this year I’m thinking I might just wear one of my Christmas jumpers, it’s only my family that see me and it’ll save some pennies! Having said that I have bought Wiggle and Squeak two cute little matching shirts to wear on Christmas day. I’d love to hear what you do? I know some people really dress up and others stay in their pj's all day!

Penguin yes 12 is a tricky age! My friend’s son is 12 and she’s struggling. He's into computer games so i'm getting him an Xbox live voucher. Groupon have personalised football mugs for £7.99 (including Man Utd ones) that you could put some hot choc sachets in if he drinks it? Does he have a boot bag? Does he like films? Perhaps a hamper with choc/sweets/drink and a cinema voucher or dvd? Or just a hamper of his favourite treats? A Sports Direct voucher so he can choose something? That may be of help/no help! :p

Oh and have you heard the present buying mantra of 'Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.' Sometimes it helps to have that in mind too.

I'm lucky if I remember to change out of my joggers from cooking Xmas dinner :o :rotfl:
