Electric-only flat- is a £130 monthly bill normal?

  • Thanks, everyone! I've never lived in an electric-only place before, so I was just trying to assess whether what we're paying is reasonable or if I should be trying to reduce my usage. It seems like £130 per month is more or less average, particularly as one of us is usually in the house. We have since switched to Outfox so I'm expecting our bill to reduce a little. For students a bill this high seems steep, but it's all life experience.

It's worth getting a usage monitor for under a tenner to see where you are using most your electric.

Thank you for coming back to the forum.

    Keep reading those meters
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Check your tarrif.

Then if possible, turn everything electric off and check over an hour to see if the meter is still running and if so, then someone else has access to your electric but I doubt this.

My one bed house is all electric (bar the cooker, it's gas) and I use approx £60 in winter months and £25 in summer months. I've just switched back to British Gas after a horrendous experience with Outfox (best of luck to you with them) and my DD is set at £56pm on my last year's usage. It's just me and I have the TV on all the time when home, and I have a tumble dryer as the house doesn't get any sunlight even in summer.

My house is a wee bit chilly but I've been in the best health ever since I moved in June 2016. Bizarre!
