January 2019 Grocery Challenge

Had to nip out for another few bits that I had forgotten and ended up stocking up with a couple of reduced items that I didn't actually need this week, :eek:but its all swings and roundabouts isn't it.....what I bought today, won't need restocking for a good 3 -4 weeks and it was cheaper than normal.
So I am now at £148.57/£200
I think we will come in well under budget and if we do, I will be reducing my target next month. I can do this...just takes a bit of will power and planning. Think its also helped by the fact that I am trying to reduce our wastage, so found myself looking at cakes in Asda and refusing to buy them as they are in plastic tubs.DMP 2015 £57,549, now £36,112 (37% paid)
EF £200 Mortgage OP's this year £115

I have £32.54 left of my grocery budget. That's going to be tricky to achieve. Mind you there is lot's in the freezer.. a challenge. Already looking at other budgets I might take money from. I'm going to have to get better at this.0

I’ve had a quick total of my spends this month and so far this totals £102.44 out of a total of £250 . This is the first time I’ve tried this and have probably over estimated how much I’d need given the fact we still had some Christmas food left. Also thought I’d need more as this month had five weekends. Still got one more shop to go for January so will put any leftover budget on one side for bulk buys and will budget £200 for further months. Have found this month on the thread has made me concentrate on meal planning and fewer but better planned shopping trips -so thank you all for that .0

Total spends of £9.11 which brings my total for the month to date to £19.71. Mostly fruit and veg, plus milk, cheese and eggs and a sneaky packet of rich tea biscuits for 29p.
This challenge is concentrating my mind wonderfully. It's turning out to be not too difficult to have just £1 a day but that's because I started with well stocked cupboards, fridge and freezer. But it is more than a little boring. I'm getting my five a day but can't afford to buy things like peppers, avocados and rhubarb and I decided meat is out of the question. My only fish purchase had been the half price fish fingers over a week ago. Ive been using up chicken and sausages from the freezer, as well as HM meals like shepherd's pie and beef casserole, but don't have many of those left. On the bright side, my freezer's soup lake is expanding; two portions out but seven portions in. Any veg needing used up before I think of something more inspiring is turned into soup.0 -
£1.45 for milk. Should be able to eek out the fridge for a couple more days. Hopefully!A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks0 -
£85.80/£100
Bought cream from Tesco: £1.10 (85p in Aldi)
I am going to go over this month. I am not going to scrimp on my big shop tomorrow because (visitors aside) going to the gym 5 times a week has made me starving and I am eating tons more than usual. I could do with putting some weight on but haven’t yet. I am going to buy beef tomorrow to make stew. I wouldn’t do that if I was scrimping. I am told that I should be eating more protein.
I am smoking a lot less, which is the goal. I feel brilliant. In fact, I must watch myself in case I turn into a gym bore. Barely drinking alcohol at all.
Still loving this challenge. I would have spent a lot more without it and I have wasted no food at all.0 -
I’ve been really run down the last couple of weeks so meal plannings gone out the window and it’s showing in spends. Feel like I could possibly claw it all back at this point tho so will be putting together a list of cheap and cheerful meals for the rest of the week.0

So I sent DH to t$co today with a strict list (he only added milkshake and bamboo take out coffee mug :rotfl:, he is paying for with his own money)
We are still trying to use up our stores, cupboard and freezer. So our meal plan is;
Mon:Ham and pea cheesy pasta
Tues:Chicken and mushroom risotto, peas and carrots
Wed:Carrot, cumin and kidney bean burgers with salad
Thur:Chicken, bulgar wheat, broccoli and carrots
Fri:Tomato and butter bean soup and roll
Sat:Turkey steak, basmati rice, butternut squash
Sun:Chilli Jacket potato and salad.
This weeks spends are £31.33 taking our total for January to £115.60. I am so happy with that but our freezer is now only half full where it was rammed full. I am planning to de-ice and clean the freezer before I start looking for ys items to restock.
Thank you to everyone on this thread for helping us to keep on track. :beer:GC Jan £200/£200.78 Feb £250/£156.07

Mr M shop tonight. £23.70.
Will update my signature shortly xI'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged0 -
Costco trip wasn't too bad. This along with a mini top up shop brings me to £98.27 out of £161.20 for the month. Will be doing a "big" shop in Aldi on Sunday so I need to keep the random stuff to a dull roar this week, hopefully less than £10. We should have gone to Sainsbugs on Sun but Dad had run out of steam by the time we went round Costco so I still need to pick up some bits for the week for me and rejig my meal plan. Desperately need fruit... Not sure a giant costco blueberry muffin really counted as 1 of my fruit portions today...
