Travel insurance help

Options
Hi just wondered if someone can help me. I booked our travel insurance for fly cruise with Sainsbury's and we have just had a 14 hour delay.
When I booked it I had no flight times so just went by dates of travel so 8th Dec until 22nd. However our return flight from Barbados departed on the 22nd but didn't reach until gatwick the 23rd so will this be invalid for me to claim. :(
Thanks

    Ring them and ask
    Claim what exactly
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Well tui have said we can claim compensation for the 14 hour delay from our travel insurance company, however not from the airline. Thanks

If your flight home was scheduled to arrive back in the UK on the last day of your policy then you are fine. If it was scheduled to arrive back the following day then you were not insured for the whole trip!

Your actual date of arrival home, after a delay that you could not have known about at the time you took out insurance, makes no difference at all to the validity of your insurance.

Firstly which airline did you fly back with? If it is an EU airline what time should you have arrived back at your home airport and when did you actually arrive. Was any information given as to why you were late getting back? Did your flight to Barbados arrive on time?
  • We were due to fly out of Barbados at 6.20 on the 22nd of December and arrive into Gatwick early hours of the 23rd. So from what is put above my travel insurance was invalid as it should of been up to the 23rd. Our flight was 14 hours late so I won't be able to claim through Sainsbury's and on the news it said airlines won't have to pay out due to exceptional circumstances out of there control.
  • What were the extraordinary circumstances that made your fight more than 3 hours late and exactly how long were you delayed getting to Gatwick

how much would your travel insurance pay for the delay?....it appear to vary depending on the type of policy but it shown as between £25 and £50 for each 12 hour delay

At least they don't charge an excess on that!

OP, if you're not covered, which I suspect you're not due to your own error, you've hardly missed out on a fortune.
