Hi
I am looking for some advice on OLED TV's. I currently have the LG OLED55C8 and I am not happy with the overall picture quality and Auto Dimming on the TV.
I previously had the LG OLEDB7V which I loved and have given this to my parents.
I am looking to have the TV exchanged am have the following sets in mind but wanted to get advice if anyone has any of these TV's or can recommended any others.
LG OLED55B8 (no auto dimming)
Panasonic TX-55FZ802
Sony KD-55AF8
TV features preferable:
* Main viewing will be SD and HD content via SKY Q
* Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos included
* Good Smart features
* Good quality sound without a sound-bar
* TV will not be professional calibrated, however will adjust manually. Good out of the box settings.
* Frequent movie viewing, occasional sports and gaming.
Thanks
Your research would have shown that the Panasonic does not have DV or DA so cross that off your list
Sony still have a poor UI, cross that off the list.
The B8 is the obvious(only) choice from your list
As it could have been before unless you got the C8 for a very small premium over the B8 at the time or like spending money.
What features got you to purchase the C8 over the B8 first time round?0 -
All LG TVs have the auto dimming feature currently. There is a petition on a couple of the AV enthusiast forums to get it added as a menu option without having to go into the service menu and LG have listened in the past to such petitions.
One thing puzzles me though. You want DA but you want good sound quality without a soundbar. DA would be of no benefit either with internal speakers or a soundbar. DA only has benefit when you use an external AV amp and a full set of not just 5.1 but 7.1 and also ceiling speakers too, that's the whole point of DA, to give a complete immersive sound and you don't get that from the TV speakers or a sound bar.
As long as the AV amp supports DA then it doesn't matter that the TV doesn't because you feed the source into the AV amp and that deals with the audio decoding and sends the picture to the TV.
If you want picture accuracy OOTB without calibration then Panasonic is who you need to be going for. Currently LG, Panasonic and Sony all use the same LG panels but Panasonic focus more on colour accuracy without the need for calibration and Sony focus more on high speed motion quality. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. From the reviews I have checked the LGB8 doesnt seem to have the auto dimming issue like the rest of the 2018 LG lineup.
I live in a flat so have chosen not to get a soundbar as I would not get the best benefit from it. Yes I know if would improve the overall sound but I just wouldnt be able to turn the volume up much.
I have heard the panasonic is good out of the box for colour accuracy and I would be tempted by this set. I am still struggling on which set to decide on as all have there good/bad points.0 -

I previously owned the LG B7 and the LG C8 was on offer so I decided to go for this set due to my fondness of the B7. When purchasing the B7 I didnt really do much research as I went on a friends recommendation and saw the TV first hand in his room environment. But now that I am looking into the details more I am undecided on which set would be best for me.
DV or DA would be a good addition but not a game changer. the overall picture quality is what I am after.0 -
Have you seem much difference going from the B7 to the C8 other than a bit brighter.
How much uhd and hdr content are you watching.
What are your parents watching.
One option get your old set back and get the parents a decent LCD and stick £700 back in you pocket.
Or get your money back and get a B8 should find one under £1,200.
If you like the LG interface and are used to it you might prefer staying with it.0 -

I have noticed quite a bit of difference between the B7 and C8 yes. Think thats what making me more picky with the TV.
I'm probably not watching much uhd and hdr content, mainly sd and hd content via sky q.
My parents like the B7 now so wont give it up I dont think.
I think I might go get out the TV's at john lewis tomorrow and more variety in store then richer sounds.
I have been looking into the Panasonic FZ802B and Panasonic FZ952 TV's but am very undecided as not seen the interface on them.0 -
Did you get to JL or RS to have a look.
Could ask RS if they have service remote you can borrow to fix your C8.
I see there are still last years models of Panasonic on the refurb site at £900 pretty decent price and Hotukdeals say there are B7 for £1k but speculation is they send you a B8.0 -
After a lot of reviewing I have gone off the idea of an OLED TV altogether..The OLEDs lose their brightness by 50% in a few years, so one review quoted.. The OLEDs are already nowhere near as bright as Samsungs QLED s .
What TV did a head to head with the current best OLED and Samsungs flagship OLED F9 this month and there is little difference bar a slightly better black level on the OLED.
Anyone got any views on the question of diminishing brightness on OLEDS..One review I read of the lifespan of OLEDS was as little as 2 years before they started losing brightness for viewers who averaged 10 hrs a day.0 -
Mine was two years old in November, and still working fine.
They used to say similar things about Plasma TV's needing re gassing, all bunkum. I still own one and passed one onto my sister, that TV is now approaching ten years old and working fine.
Who wrote the review an LCD lover!0
