O/S Daily Saturday 22nd December 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black, damp underfoot but not too cold.

DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and just finished brekkie, I'm working today but then off until next Saturday when I'm working again.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg. I had jacket potato, beans, ham and side salad. Not sure about tonight but I'll organise something no doubt.

Yesterday I was again reasonably productive, got the jobs I wanted done on my list, so just have a few more to do, but they are last minute things, ie, collect the fresh meat hamper from the butcher's xmas eve first thing. I managed to get everything wrapped that I needed to.

DS1 went out - they went straight from work and had eats and drinks, then he was going to text me to collect him, but he text and said his mate had offered him a lift home, so I was going then to take him back a bit later, but another mate offered to come and collect him so I didn't have to be taxi, he came in around 2.30am, he didn't seem to worse for wear, so won't be hearing from him before I go to work.

Keep safe and well x

And so it begins..... mr tru's first day off and to the first person we came across who we knew, he was making out he was the helpful hero and I'm the person who needs helping. It's done in a jokey way but is really a put-down for me while trying to make himself look great. He does this all the time in various ways, trouble is he's not as subtle as he thinks he is and most of the time people can see what he's doing. So I don't challenge it, because he's a damn good talker and will always have a good explanation. I just let him make a fool of himself and carry on with what I was doing regardless.

Morrisons wasn't too busy yesterday, but the people that were there were the type to leave the front of the trolley on one side of the aisle, while hanging on to it and stretching themselves over to the other side to reach the stuff they wanted. I can't imagine doing all my shopping like that, it must be really tiring :D Our trolley was moved slowly down the main bit in the middle while we took it in turns to nip down the aisles. Mr tru moaned the whole time, I just told him this is why I like to do my grocery shopping online :D

The animal feed place was quiet, I picked up a couple of bones for Scamp, he is very happy :D I gave him the smaller one yesterday, he took it straight to the mat to eat it. We went in the other room and he didn't follow us with it, he stayed where he was til he'd had enough, then went back to it later on his own. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but he likes to be with you as much as possible so for him to take his treat to where it's supposed to go – without being told – is fab :D

Today I'll be rearranging the fridge, arranging chocolate coins, burning scanted candles and watching Christmas films. If I'm feeling energetic I'll put some washing on and vacuum upstairs :D

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Mr Sandman has forgotten where I live can someone please remind him.

Pleased to read that the idiots operating the drones around Gatwick have been arrested. I hope they throw the book at them. What do they get from causing all that disruption to peoples' lives.

I promised myself I would address my skunk like roots first this morning and here I am messing about as usual. I must do them before I open the blinds as I need to be hidden from view. Not a pretty sight.

At some point today I want to make some ginger cookies but need to be sure I can be trusted not to eat them all first.

Not a lot else planned just more messing about I suppose. My get up and go has deserted me well and truly.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking of HOLLY, POPPY and TAFF and anyone else undergoing/recovering from treatment. I don't think we have heard from SILVER-OLDIE for a few days I hope all is as well as it can be for her. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone.

It’s so mild here, I was too warm all night so had my feet sticking out from under the duvet most of the time.

I’m showered and sitting wrapped in a towel. My aim is to be out of the house in about 30 mins to get to the SM early doors. There’s not much to get in but I like to do it in relative quiet. When the alcohol section is allowed to open the place will get swamped.

After shopping I’m dropping off a little gift to DM’s lovely now ex-neighbour who is still in a care home until her new own home is ready for her. She had a terrible fall and ended up lying on her bathroom floor overnight, permanently damaging her back in the process. Such a shame as she was very active until the fall.

My favourite cousin rang from Berlin last night. He’s planning to travel across in the spring to see my DM. I must go to see his DM as she’s fading into Alzheimer’s.

I should get dressed now! My thoughts are with our poorlies.

    Happy Saturday to all.
  • Good morning, another damp, dark and dreary one here.

I didn't sleep too badly, but I was still tired after a run of bad nights. I would love to sleep for even 6 hours without waking, but it seems impossible. Hey ho. So many of us seem to be in the same boat.

Got through quite a bit yesterday, we went to a large M*rrison's a short drive away and I did what was for me a large shop. What is it about grocery shopping at Christmas - does anyone else start feeling that they must throw a load of stuff into the trolley "just in case". I resisted the temptation, but it's the same every year.

I noticed two people in the car park with two large trolleys piled high, unfortunately they had a very small car, heaven knows where the stuff was going to go!! they must have been feeding 10 people for a fortnight.

I managed to royal ice the cake, so it's now firming up a bit in the spare bedroom, I turned the radiator off to keep it cool.

Visited a friend last night, and had a good chat.

Today, I've got tablets to collect and the usual tidying, that's all I think.

Tomorrow we're taking Dgd out to buy her something to wear, as part of her Christmas present, as her Mum says not to get her loads of toys. I have filled a stocking for her with the sort of bits and pieces that I know she likes, but her main present will be clothes. Little girls these days know their own minds when it comes to clothes I think. We'll go to a local retail park and hope she wants something fairly sensible. I'll have a word with her mother before we go for a few guidelines!!

I noticed yesterday when I was catching up with posts that other posters have card making granddaughters as well!! As a child I would have loved the kind of stuff I've got in my bag, funny isn't it. My12 year old Dgs used to like it as well when he was younger but now he's too cool for things like that.

Enough waffle from me - thoughts go to the sad and poorly people, I know that Christmas is not a happy time for everyone.

    Take care folks
  • Good morning everyone, like Gers I'm wrapped in a towel, about to get the show on the road. The main task before I go to coffee club is to continue finding space for yesterday's veg box delivery which was doubled as the company is closed until after the next one's due. The nice thing is they've opted to put in a much wider range of veg rather than just double up on the usual options.

The rest of the day I'll be wrapping the gifts which are going with me on Christmas Eve, and catching up with laundry. Making more soup for the freezer. Also doing a bit of decluttering - I picked up a fab vintage leather handbag in the local Cancer Research charity shop and its predecessor can get binned (not fit to be donated). There's another handbag which can be added to the ongoing CS bag.

It's dry here and above freezing, both big plusses. I've read there's to be a lot of traffic on the move today, so in Hill Street Blues style, I'll sign off saying be careful out there. xxx

    Morning :)

Thanks for the carol tru I can hear your pride when you talk about scampi such a credit to you :)

TA Agree about the drone operators what nasty people do something like that. I think they should get one month for each of the 150,000 people with ruined pans

SR yes I feel that pull to buy more but also usually resist. online does prevent this for me

silver_oldie hope you are OK Haven't seen Lainey either for a few days maybe everyone is just manic with plans

I am busy busy too today but no shopping :j After my Christmas call with my age uk lady I am off to the hairdressers for a full wash and scrub up :D Hate going so will feel no pleasure and because Im always putting it off I need a lot of work! Need to have a fair bit chopped off my mop, my eyebrows need sorting to change my look alike from Dennis Healy and then my sadly neglected nails need to made to look remotely feminine again....:( 2 hours of hell wish they gave optional anaesthetic.

After this I am heading out with my friend for pressy swopping and a drink. We would normally eat out but we are both a bit over pub food atm

Spoke to Holly yesterday and she is just so low :( I think she may be going to her brothers but she doesn't feel particularly welcome and I can understand she doesn't want to have to play act Christmas celebrations but equally doesn't want to be a misery ...she has very little to celebrate this year. Ill be hoping next year she can have a little bit of joy in her world and that her brother takes extra care of her next week

Right wish me luck for my full valet ...I need it :D

    Good morning all,

I have 2 weeks of having enough time in the mornings to post now. It just doesn't seem the same once it gets to dinner time....

I haven't slept well the last few nights. On Tuesday night our number two cat was poorly and we had to let her go on Wednesday morning so cat number one has been allowed upstairs for a couple of nights until she is used to being an only cat again. She's an absolute nuisance and I've been shutting the HT's door so he can sleep undisturbed hence I have the visitor. I gave in at 5am this morning and shut her downstairs.

I have all the Christmas type stuff done, which isn't much here. I just need to hoover upstairs and mop the floors downstairs, strip my bed and change my bedding. I might make a chocolate cake for the HT - he doesn't like mince pies or fruit cake. He had a friend come for tea last night so there was no point in cleaning floors before that.

I'm not keen on busy places so all the shopping was done earlier in the week and if I need anything else I will be going to the local Co-Op until everything is back to normal in January. I have a friend calling to collect mince pies today and we're taking presents and mince pies to another friend tomorrow (she's already had her Christmas cake from me). Other than that it will just be me and the HT with visits from my best friend as and when he can manage it in between visiting his family. Oh and gin. I expect there to be gin :D

TA I've been thinking of you. Our first Christmas we bought a candle with stars on and any time that we wanted the HT's dad to join in like present opening etc we lit the candle. Big hugs from me and the HT.

I hope everyone's plans run smoothly today and take care all of you :)
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Lovely day yesterday with DD1 and GGS, he is a little charmer, 21 months and talking well, he was very good whilst he was here but is a bundle of energy. Said please and thank you, sat for a few moments watching CBeebies eating some melon, after that it was all systems go again. He badly wanted to go out in the garden, but it was raining, he asked Nanny for his coat, which of course she had not brought. He did not throw a strop but carried on doing something else.

We were shattered when he had gone, but it was so nice to see him and his Nanny. We do not get to see that much of them, they all lead busy lives, but DD1 does managed to come over two or three times a year.

Needless to say nothing got done yesterday, I might just manage to shove the dyson round the sitting room, the kitchen is ok for now, will possibly need to do the floor on Monday.

We had a lie in this morning, I did sleep fairly well, woke a couple of times, but managed to get back to sleep again. Medication seems to be doing its job.

Appointment has come through for my cataract 11th January at Loughborough. so two hospital visits within 3 days.

Supper tonight is stovies, so we will be having corned beef sarnies for lunch tomorrow, its too expensive to put a whole tin in....... no idea whats for dessert, will have to have a rake in the freezer and cupboards.
