How can I tell if my graphics card supports HDMI

My laptop and plasma T.V. are not getting along at the moment, lack of communication is the problem, I tried a HDDB15 cable but its not quite right. Would I be better off witha HDMI cable and how do I know if my laptop has a decent enough graphics card?
Also I looked at the HDDB 15 cable ends and there are only actually 14 pins with 15 females in the laptop and telly, why is this?

What resolution is your laptop running and what resolutions does your TV support? Have you checked your refresh rates?
Can you be more specific other than "not getting along?"
Its unlikely your laptop graphics card supports HDMI. Desktop cards are only just coming out with them. The fact you are using a VGA cable leads me to assume you don't have a DVI/HDMI port in your laptop.0 -
I checked and I do have a HDMI port in the side of my laptop, how do I find out what res my laptop is running at and what my TV supports. I only bought the HDDB15 cable off the advice from comet staff. I,m trying to play games on plasma through laptop but when opening the game the plasma picture goes wrong (flickery/fuzzy)0

If XP, right click empty area of desktop/properties/settings.
It will be something like e.g.1280x768.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I'm on Vista, will it be the same method?0

Right Click on desktop, select Personalise. Select "Display Settings" and it's all in there.0

What and where are my refresh rates?
I checked in display settings and It looks like the laptop resolution is 1440 x 900 pixels although there are 2 monitors showing and the other one is on 800 x 600 pixels0 -
So you have your plasma set up as a 2nd monitor for windows. running at 800x600.
Does your plasma work when just in windows? If it does then your settings need to be adjusted in the game your playing, I expect you have the resolution set too high that the plasma can't display. drop it down to 800x600 and increase it 1 step at a time untill it stops working then go back a step.0 -
Yes my plasma does work when in windows. It also works when viewing the list of games on the disk but when a game is selected it goes wrong on the plasma, I can change the resolution on the game settings using the advanced settings and when set at 320 x 200 it is far too big for the laptop screen, the picture is good quality but basically the bottom half of the picture is not visible. My thinking was if I set it up on the plasma then I would be able to see the whole picture.0

If you can, find a monitor profile file for the plasma, it will restrict the sttings tht windows can use you then use the best settings available to it with in windows for when your playing games.
Remember the plasma is your 2nd display not the primary display.0 -
sorry john but "find a monitor profile file for the plasma" is a language I don't speak, is there any chance of laymans terms please, Don't get me wrong I am very grateful for your reply, I've been trying for ages now using various threads to sort this problem but nobody seems to have a solution.
