Electric - SSE to Bulb - 2 MPANs for Night Storage - Help Please!

Maribel, you'll have read my posts above. My parents managed to switch to Bulb, retain their existing radio telemeter series k meter (3 rates) and have to pay two standing charges for the 2 MPANS. Bulb were able to put 1 MPAN onto Economy 7 (day and night rates) but the storage heater MPAN could only go on the standard tariff because it has too many off-peak hours.
My understanding is that 1 MPAN could be 'de-energized' and a smart meter installed but this may or may not involve rewiring by an electrician at my parents' expense. Hope that helps.0 -
Many if not all small suppliers will struggle with a 2 MPAN set up. You will be much better off trying to work something through one of the big 6. And even then you'll need to find someone who knows what they are talking about. The average CSA won't be able to help.
There is a number for EDF Energys specialist team at the bottom of this web page. https://my.edfenergy.com/gas-electricity/tariff-information-labels
If you are not using the storage heaters you should be able to get the secondary mpan de-nergised and then all the units on the remaining mpan totalised (this just means they are all billed at the same rate) onto pseudo standard rate.
The problem with this is de-energising a live mpan. You will need to pat for someone to disconnect your storage heaters from the meter.
A Smart meter may be the solution for you. You could keep the 2 mpan set up if you can find someone who is installing 5 terminal Smart meters but I don't think any will be doing this in force until late next year.
For a normal smart meter to work you will still need the storage heaters disconnected and capped off from the meter.
Someone mentioned the CMA investigation above - this is the document you need to read.

Hello there,
Though having two MPANs seem to be uncommon and not many know about it.
I hate to be in this circumstance.
With Two MPANs there are not many tariffs you can avail.
I rented this flat and have gone mad trying to explain to letting agents what the issue is. They think I am fool or don't know how to switch electricity supplier.
Any solutions my friends. Which supplier are you with now?
Bulb is offering with two standing charge. i.e. one for each MPAN.
The letting agent never disclosed that the metering system is a mess here.
Any advice is appreciated. Unfortunately I am on a contract and hence cant leave the house.
This may not the correct forum, shouldn't letting agents/landlords disclose this? Do I have any right in this regard? Compared to a two bedroom flat, the electricity cost is more than twice in this house!0 -
The letting agent has nothing to do with the electricity or number of leccy meters. If you want to change tariff or get rid of one of the meters then you would have to agree it with your landlord as it might (in fact probably would) involve some wiring changes. Who is going to pay, him or you. He's not obligated to change it, just because you don't like it so it would be at your cost
Assuming that he's happy to go ahead, then you need to discuss it with your suppliers Restricted Metering Team - there's no point in just chatting with the normal customer service help desk - you need to speak to the specialised team who can do something about it.
Assuming that it can all be sorted out then there may be a cost either for the wiring changes (not the responsibility of the energy company) or possibly to get a meter change.
Bear in mind though that the landlord could legitimately demand that you re-instate it back when you leave, all at your cost.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
The letting agent was unaware who the current supplier is and about the two MPAN. The supply address is also wrongly listed. Unlisted property. I have called customer service in npower multiple times and no response. Thanks for your time to reply.0
