Hi there,
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me out with a problem that I've been experiencing with Office 10. I'm not the brightest spark in the box when it come to computers, but will detail the problem as best as I can, but apologise if I miss out any crucial information.

I installed it about 18 months ago, and have never had any problems, however, a few days ago a red Failed Authentication box began to repeatedly flash at the bottom of my screen, and despite entering the code repeatedly the problem continued. I decided to start from scratch and uninstalled it, however, when trying to reinstall, I am now receiving the following error message boxes when I attempt to proceed with the installation:-

The set up has encountered a problem during installation, please review the log files for further info.

Error 25531 failed to open XML file C:Program files Office

System error: 2147024786

I appreciate any any help or advice.

Regards
Williacg

Microsoft Office 10 has never existed (Office XP was version 10 but it wasn't called Office 10 and it came out 14 years ago so I doubt you mean this version). Do you mean Office 2010?

Office 10 was the codename for Office XP (circa 2001). ;)

Are you still running Vista on that device or did you upgrade to Windows 7 or 10?

Not understood! I have Microsoft Office professional Plus 2010 installed on my PC. It contains Microsoft Word 2010/Excel 2010/Powerpoint2010 etc etc See https://products.office.com/en-us/office-2010

Are you getting confused with Microsoft Windows? - but Windows 10 is the current OS.

My daughter bought a legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 just before Office 2010 was released, and the Discs for Office 2010 were sent some weeks later.

Anyway to answer the OP, I did a clean install of Windows 10 on two laptops. Last week I re-installed and authenticated Microsoft Office 10 on one of the laptops without problem. The next day(Thurs) I re-installed Microsoft Office10 on the other laptop and it wouldn't let me authenticate; it said I had exceeded the number of times it could be installed and it could be used for 30 days and would have limited functionality after that period.

    Office 2010 <> Office 10

Or for the non-VB/BASIC aficionados ...

    Office 2010 != Office 10

    That's it exactly,

I'm using Microsoft Office Professional 2010, and each time I try to re-install, I receive a multitude of error messages, the latest message is as follows:-

"Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 cannot verify the licence for this application. A repair attempt failed or was cancelled by the user, the application will now close down"

As a last attempt for the day (as my head is throbbing) I am currently running the Repair feature in Set-up, and it is currently going through the Configuration process (incredibly slowly), and so I will update you tomorrow on my progress, as I've had enough and I'm off to bed.
