Share Help (selling)

I've just got approx 35,000 shares in a smallish company.

I am trying to sell them today, but when I do that quote thing that last 15 seconds, the price offered is a lot lower than I want/current price.

If I do smaller chunks, I get a better price, but would have to pay the FEE from the broker (£6) each time.

Is this "How it just works" or do I have to be a little cleverer??

Thanks in advance.

If 35,000 shares is a large order size for this company then you will not get the market price. Either split into small chunks (I expect the better price will make up for the £6 fee, which is a fraction of a penny per share) or use a limit order with your minimum price.

Will limit orders be seen, that is what I normally do. Set a price a few pence from what it is, go out and have a coffee or 6, then it normally hits and sells automatically within hours/days?

I guess there is a way of seeing volume sales etc of them?

If the market in this stock is illiquid, then you might push the price down by selling a smaller number anyway.

You have discovered what it means the hard way! In an illiquid market it is difficult to sell a large number of shares. Today is probably a quiet day in markets so that probably exasperates your problem. Can you wait to sell or spread your sales over several days?

I'm going to pull the trigger today.

    Open 73.00
    High 76.78
    Low 72.90
    Mkt cap 143.04M
    P/E ratio 13.65

    I have over 30,000 of the !!!!!!s.

I'm happy to get rid over a time period. Under 10k at a time to avoid the £1 charge for whatever it is!

When I am getting a 15 second quote, I am getting 72p for all shares up to around 15,000 shares, then after that, it drops. Is there a site where I can see how many ask bids and the value per share (if that is how it works)??

Also, the settlement Offset??? It's showing as standard but I can change it? What does that mean??

Thanks for you help in advance.

You can get this info with access to 'Level 2' but you usually need to pay for it.

    Edit:

The £1 charge for transactions over £10,000 (Stamp Duty) only applies to purchases.

Interesting, no free sites at all show it?

It's the PTM levy I'm seeing for selling over £10k
  • Yes sorry. Been a while since i was invested in individual shares and I was wrong - forgot about PTM levy. Ignore that part of my post.
