This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all :)

Back to daft o'clock for me and have been up since 4. I think wine has a big effect on sleep for me so my zero nights i sleep much better. Going to do dry January mostly this year again bar the first couple of days when I'm still away so i will be sleeping for England then :o

Decluttering continues and yesterday I started on my room. May leave it there now till Jan as I now have 4 stuffed black bags so will wait till the charity boys start collecting again in the new year. It certainly feels good to have space and to know that what is there is what I will wear not just a small percentage of it

So my mystery parcel arrived yesterday (the one that cost me nearly £20 from Canada) Its lovely but a very expensive bag of ginger biscuits and 3 pairs of socks :rotfl: The biscuits were in a lovely Santa tin though which I will have for many years I'm sure :)

Today i want to nip to M+S for a food hall wander...dont really need anything but I do love their nibbles.

Enjoyed my liver mash and sprouts yesterday ...sorry taff lol and yes I know that includes the countries most hated foods :D Today I will freezer rummage so goodness knows what i will find...maybe more liver :D

Still haven't wrapped my last few pressies or wrote my neighbours cards so will do that today

Have a lovely day team :)

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was roast pork loins, mash, veg and gravy, not sure about tonight, but have some breaded chicken portions so may do those and chips, for the menfolk. I'll have either stir fry or jacket potato.

Yesterday I was again productive, so just have last bits to do today and wrap the prezzies. I'm giving DS1 a lift to work shortly, as they get to finish work once the boss is happy everything is done, they then go to the pub - he'll be getting food there too, and then phoning me to collect him, get showered and changed and then be going out tonight and rolling home whenever! I can just about remember those days, going out and coming home in the early hours a couple of hours sleep and then going to work - it's a long time ago though!

I'm heading to the SM on the way back from taking him to work - just getting the beer that DH likes and some fresh stuff.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning all.

Not sure what I'm doing today yet! I had planned to drive down the road and then last night DM suggested I wait until Saturday. It's nerdy nice of her but I may still go today. Fridge is almost empty and bag packed. I'll see how I feel a little later.

Today my thoughts are taken back to the Lockerbie Pan Am disaster and all those who died. I was travelling with friends from London to Berlin and our plane took off after the Pan Am one. I remember vividly arriving at my cousins house and watching the live reports. Then, when unpacking, we found that every single wrapped present had been opened, inspected and bound with security tape, as were our suitcases. Such a tradegy that the device wasn't found on the Pan Am plane.

It's dark enough still to make me want to stay in bed a bit longer!

    Happy Friday to everyone.

I hope your neighbour was quiet last night redruby x

Everything is wrapped apart from a couple of presents which I won't be able to hide again once I've moved them. I'll do those on sunday night then surround them with my crochet things, it'll be a bit crowded but no-one ever dares to touch my craft stuff so they should be safe :D

Mr tru has to go out for a couple of hours, when he gets back we'll go shopping for fruit and veg. I want to get a juicy bone for Scampi for Christmas Eve, he's very good with the people that'll be here because he knows them well but he might get a bit overexcited, a bone will keep him busy and give him some time alone. • Morning folks and thanks NELSKI. I had a rubbish night and early rising too but that's par for the course these days.

3 DGDs are still in bed but will be to waken up shortly for school. The two younger ones won't want to get up as they were doing both performances yesterday and didn't get dropped off till 10.15 last night. Just the matinee performance today so DD has an early night earmarked for them.

Once peace reigns I have the dubious pleasure of the Friday Tidy. Is it Friday every day cos they do roll round quick.

I got a bit carried away with my shopping yesterday, store cupboard bargains on offer didn't help, but it means I will be able to save money on shopping bills come the new year so no harm done in the long run.

The elusive parcel didn't arrive yesterday morning after all. Another phone call extracted the promise it will definitely be delivered today. I think these delivery companies take on too much this time of year. Too many packages and too few delivery vans it seems.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who need them. Take care all xx

    Morning lovelies
Another one who couldn't sleep so we were shopping in Tes*o before 5am . Twas lovely and quiet and we were finished in just over an hour. All shopping done ( mostly fresh stuff but I do confess to buying some Xmas cup cakes, but I had a voucher so they were free :j ) and everything has been put away, so if we've forgotten anything too bad :rotfl:. I probably like most people over buy food at Xmas but none of it will get wasted....... not if the DGC have any say about it :D.

Mr Fix It is still sneezing and now coughing as well, so too is Dad :(. I also did Dad's shopping this morning ...... a jar of pickled cabbage :rotfl:. He didn't want anything else as he's going to be here on Sunday, Christmas day and boxing day, plus he'll be going home with several doggie bags !

We are supposed to be going to DD's to put the dolls house together and then all go out for lunch, but we will have to see if Mr Fix It is up to it.
Right I'm back off to bed, I hope I can get an hour or so. At least I may look more human even if I don't feel it :rotfl:.
I will pop back later to catch up with those that follow.
    Take care all

    Good morning everyone :santa2:
It feels like groundhog day here again as regards sleeping or lack of it I should say. Maybe once Christmas is over things will settle down for me. I am so tired of going to bed at 10ish and then waking before midnight. I doze in a chair but still feel shattered all the time. So sorry for moaning but I know my fellow insomniacs will understand.

Never mind, I have a good day planned today. We got paid early so I have paid off the council tax and the water bill. It feels good to get that sorted and I now have a couple of months respite from them. I have also bit the bullet and ordered myself some disability aids to make my life a little bit more comfortable. I have a walking stick, a perching stool and some extremely unsexy slippers arriving hopefully before Christmas but we shall see. I am hoping that the stool will allow me to get back into the kitchen and start cooking again properly. I am sure the kids will be happy for that to happen too :rotfl:.

Jemima and the grandchildren are coming over to see me later on. We are looking after them on Christmas eve morning too which will be great fun as my grandson is as fizzy as a bottle of pop with excitement. I will go and get washed and dressed in a minute in case they come over early.

Steve is on a half day but traditionally they let everyone go home early on factory friday so I am expecting to see him around 11ish. Phoebe is working this morning and Lilly and Lee are at home now from college. Poor Lilly was supposed to have a root canal done yesterday but the dentist was too ill. She was up in the early hours with me with her tooth aching. I will have to make sure to order some more painkillers for her for over Christmas.

Well that's all my waffle for now. Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Hello everyone, thanks Nelski for starting us off, and tru for the ditty, I'll be singing it in my head all day :)

I'm in gift delivery mode today, postponed from yesterday by an impromptu meeting with a friend in town resulting in a sit down for a bowl of soup and a catch up.

I'm hoping there's time for a swim in the afternoon. I definitely feel better and sleep better on the days I've been in the pool.

I've had the same experience last year as Nelski with Christmas parcels from outside the EU. £19 duty and PO handling charge for three small rollerball tubes of essential oil blends that my daughter had made for me. I've told her not to send anything, as Christmas came early this year and my new grandchild is the best Christmas gift ever :)

Time to make a move. I hope everyone has as good a day as possible. Hugs to poorlies, carers, and everyone needing a boost. xxx
  • Morning chums,

Today signals my last day in work for 2 weeks and it's also my DM birthday. First time in my 28 years I won't see her on her birthday but I've sent a card and there's a bouquet of flowers arriving at her work later today. I'll see her tomorrow.

I've my Christmas party tonight in a fancy hotel in Manchester tonight. I've a feeling it'll get messy but I'm driving back home tomorrow so I'm going to be sensible. With the party looming, I finish work at 1pm today which is nice. It'll give me a chance to start packing and getting the flat ready. I also need to find a feeding block thing for my goldfish whilst I'm away.

So for the next fortnight I'll be back staying with DM and I've a busy couple of weeks catching up with family friends. I suppose it's quite endearing to be in the situation. Coming on here is part of my typical weekday morning routine and I'll be sure to pop by and say hi.

Nelski - So are you going to tell them you had to pay for it? What if the same happens again next year?!
  • Good morning, damp and dreary here.

I've had so many bad nights over the last week that I actually slept fairly well last night (for me, that is)

There's some shopping to be done today, and I said I would take up a pair of trousers for a friend, I've tacked them. I had intended to finish them last night but they're black and I want to look at them in daylight before doing anything else. Stitching black on black I find is sometimes better done in natural light, not that there's much at the moment,

Might royal ice the Christmas cake today as well, dgd is keen to place the decorations on it, and I want it to firm up a bit first.

She discovered the joys of my cardmaking bag when she was here earlier this week, and made a really nice card, assisted by Grandad. I was seeing to the baby, so it was his job to make cards with her. I'd taken my craft knife and other dangerous items out, and she loved going through all the things. Trouble is she'll want it out every time and I'll have no stuff left!!

Like TA, I've been buying store cupboard bargains, now the cupboard is bursting full, but I'll use it all.

Thinking of everyone who is sad or poorly.

    Take care folks
