Absolutely right that if it's his Mum that's round then he needs to stay about - cheeky monkey he is ever having thought otherwise!
Glad you got an extra shift in - that was part of your original planning around the current job and giving up other income streams if I recall correctly? My inner grump finds it annoying as she's local so we see her regularly. But she's sweet and harmless and probably a bit lonely, so I go with the flow. DH used to be quite naughty and leave me to entertain her, once he even went off for a nap!! I'm quite firm with him now and he has to stay around.
Sunday, I did an extra shift. Those shifts are lucrative, but I try not to do too many as impacts on our weekend and it's a really early start which leaves me tired in the evening. Still, the extra money will be nice towards Christmas spends2 -

Yes, it was the plan... if I do 1 shift a month it covers the dropped income streams. I sometimes do a second one when I know an expensive month is coming up (like December).... I'd prefer to do them weekdays really, but then it's more of a hassle with arranging childcare so I seem to mainly gravitate to Sundays (especially as they're the best paid).DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Not much happening here, I've made a good dent in my Christmas shopping and feeling pretty organised with it. Want it finished by December, ready to start wrapping. I find all the organisation quite daunting and expensive to be honest and we also do all the hosting.
I've got nearly 2 weeks off work over Christmas/New Year which will be lovely, really looking forward to it. It's felt like a really long year tbh
We get paid Thursday and it's very much required, our cars are nearly empty as are our food cupboards.
I'm being really strict with what invites I accept over Christmas, so many dinners out being organised and at £50-70 a time plus taxi, I'm trying to avoid most of themDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Well done on the OT it all helps. Great that you have 2 weeks off at xmas. Well deserved break. Ouch to taxi fares... Is that because of where you live or that both of you want to drink?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I've long since decided that the social anxiety aspect of Christmas parties outweighs the pleasure of seeing the few people I might actually want to spend time with at them, so it's an easy one for me. MrEH's company aren't organising any form of do this year, and my lot always just take me for a long lunch at the pub, so that's suitably low stress (Although this year I will need to make sure it is on a day when MrEH is also in London to deal with the driving home!)
Allowing that I was on Furlough for so much of the year I'm actually surprised quite how burned out I feel at this stage in proceedings - I can only begin to imagine how much you're in need of a decent break!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
