Xbox 360 from Game not fit for purpose.

I bought an Xbox360 for my son’s birthday. It was bought on the 3rd of September for his birthday at the end of November. That means the 30 day policy was completed when it was wrapped in birthday paper.
Anyway, once unwrapped I duly set up the Xbox360 but the controller wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t connect to the Xbox at all. So over a few days maybe a week or two I bought 2 other controllers to see if it was a faulty controller. It wasn’t. No controllers would connect.
I contacted Game who advised me that as the system didn’t work I just needed to take it to a store within 12 months where they would check it and exchange/refund if appropriate.
I took it to a store last week where they connected controllers immediately. The manager said the problem would be ‘in house interference’ from other devices, internet etc.
I rang and was told it was over 30 days and because it would now be classified as ‘used’ as the sellotape on the box had been cut and the system had been set up despite the controllers not being able to connect. A situation that I couldn’t find out until the system had been turned on.
The console is not fit for purpose due to it not working. I have rung and been fobbed off and told they cannot do anything as ‘policies’. I even, due to the issue not being their direct fault and most certainly not mine suggested that I would accept a refund of the money paid as part of an exchange for a different system where I would pay the difference. I have borrowed the alternative system to ensure it would work and it did. This has been turned down.
What can I do?

Your rights are pretty much limited as there is nothing wrong with the xbox. The store proved it wasn't faulty so finding why it won't connect in your house should be what you concentrate on.
Try turning off electrical devices 1 at a time to find the culprit.0 -
I love this bit...That means the 30 day policy was completed when it was wrapped in birthday paper.0

Do game still sell brand new 360's? Did you buy preowned?
The controllers immediately connecting in store suggests that there is an issue on your end somewhere rather than any issues with the console itself not conforming to contract, sorry. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
If I were you I'd try to find out what's causing the interference and mitigate it.
A Google search suggest that WiFi may be an issue, however my XBox One S seems to happily co-exist with my router which is 2 inches away from it.
Using a tethered controller would probably fix the issue.0 -
If you have the time and inclination there is plenty of troubleshooting help on the internet. You could start here:
https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/accessories/xbox-360-wireless-controller-cannot-connect
As well as turning things off, you could also try to move to another location in the house.
It does genuinely sound as if it is not faulty, and you just need to troubleshoot.0 -
I did that and as we have Xbox live I suspect the issue is the internet. But he uses that so can’t turn that off but thank you for the advice 😀0

I guess Xbox wireless controllers use bluetooth.
When my Amazon Firestick connects to WiFi on the 2.4GHz band and I connect my bluetooth headset to the stick I get the following message:Wi-Fi Performance
Stereo Bluetooth headsets may impact your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and audio performance. To eliminate the impact, connect your Fire TV Stick to a 5GHz wireless router.
According to Wikipedia, Bluetooth and WiFi both operate at 2.4GHz. I guess that's why they can interfere with each other. Can you persuade your router to only use the 5GHz band and not use the 2.4GHz band? It's likely most, perhaps all, your devices will operate at 5GHz.
Otherwise I guess you'll have to use wired Xbox controllers only.0 -
