O/S Daily Thursday 20th December 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Pitch black here still, bit blustery but not too cold, shortest day tomorrow so even by this time next week you'll start seeing the difference in how light/dark it is in the mornings/evenings.

Dinner last night was ham, egg, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg and HM coleslaw. Not sure about dinner tonight but will sort that this morning.

Yesterday work wasn't too busy, so I'm now on days' off, except Saturday morning.

So on to today - I have my normal "to do" list, I'll be visiting the bank and building society and I want to get to the SM today and pick up the last few non perishables, some more drink, beer, crisps, nuts etc, I haven't bought very much of that as yet. I'll then go and do my normal food shopping tomorrow. I did get the xmas cake sorted, it's now got marzipan and icing on it and is decorated, because I've left it so late to do I've done marzipan and icing - and not left the marzipan to dry out for a day or 2 like I would normally - but the menfolk eat it so quickly here I'm not sure it really makes any difference!

I'm visiting my friend to take her children's prezzies lunchtime/early afternoon, so by that point I'm hoping I won't have too much left to do and once home can then get going with food prepping for tonight and wrap some more prezzies.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Last day of work for me for this year :j I cant tell you how pleased that makes me, its an easy day today just got to do a few jobs to close the kitchen and then go off to the clients party where we all sing dance eat and some of them get far too drunk and we supervise :D

Should be finished there by 3.30 latest and will then nip into M & S for some of their chocolates that I am a bit addicted to, and I might see of there is a meal deal on for dinner.

I had a bit of a showdown with my neighbour last night, he is a diy freak and we have banging and drilling 90% of weekends and for the last two weeks every single evening, last night I was in bed an he started using a hammer drill at 9.30 last night I was so angry I went round there is my dressing gown and told him to stop, we had a bit of a row with him telling me he had to get the kitchen done before xmas and me telling him he was rude and obnoxious for drilling at night and to stop at 8 in the evening in future otherwise I might do something I regret with his hammer drill  Hopefully the message got across as I was quite angry.

Specky I love gaming too I don't think its strange at all ! x

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC.

I never got on here yesterday as didn't have anything uplifting to say but I have just had a quick re-cap. NAN glad the news was as good as you could expect but SNOOZER sorry yours wasn't as good as you both hoped. TAFF nice to hear from you, take it easy.

Nothing uplifting to say today either and I will be glad when the festive season is over. I am going through the motions for my family's sake but my heart isn't in it.

Awaiting a delivery this morning. Another debacle! Ordered Sunday, email said delivery would be Tuesday but I could change it to another day. As I was going to be out Tuesday I re-arranged for Wednesday and got email confirmation. Got home Tuesday and, yes, you've guessed it, a delivery was attempted!! Rang them up and delivery re- arranged for this morning. Will it happen?

If and when it happens I shall be doing a quick shop afterwards of f & V, dairy and other fridge stuff. This will be my last before Christmas and as I shall be out most of the time I don't need a great deal. Meats are already in the freezer ready to take out and cook and take down to DDs. A bit of a disjointed Christmas as the Panto girls have a lot of performances and much coming and going to be done. Boxing Day is a free day for them so that is earmarked as our Christmas dinner day.

I currently have a pan of lentil and bacon soup on the go and it's smelling lovely. My soup stocks in the freezer are going down. When I am in my lunch is always soup and a sarnie or toastie so my supply soon whittles down.

Take care one and all and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. xx

    O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
    The silent stars go by

    Are met in thee tonight

redruby Good for you – what a selfish git

My eyes kept watering all afternoon yesterday, everything was blurry and by teatime they were really puffy. I woke up in the night and my eyelids were glued shut, this morning the puffiness has almost gone and they're not watering. Not sure what was going on but it had better not come back :D

I'll be wrapping the presents today. I've been looking forward to it, I'll play my Christmas CD and eat chocolate while I'm flinging paper about :D

  • Good morning everyone, oh that's so annoying about the hall carpet, OL, and as for your neighbour RedRuby, let's hope he got the message loud and clear! Fingers crossed that your delivery finally arrives, TA.

Scrabble for me this morning. A bit of wrapping up and then delivering in a nearby town this afternoon. Soup for lunch and stir fry for the evening meal.

Gers, what a heart warming tale about the broken ornament and the person at the company taking the trouble to search the stock room. It holds the spirit of Christmas!

All the best to everyone and I hope you have your best possible day. xxx

    Good morning :)

Good for you redruby I wouldn't mess with a raging dressing gown clad woman needing peace :D

Up and at it this morning a wash is on with some summer stuff with another in the queue.

Enjoyed my last work meeting yesterday although I'm not sure how much work he can offer early in the year. No sea bass on the menu  so had a chicken caesar salad instead with a cheeky glass of wine.

Plans today are to finish off the spare and make a start on my room I am loving my new desire to get rid of so much ....hoping I dont do an OL and chuck too much. I was smiling yesterday when I didn't get my usual Next VIP slot....I feel someone is telling me something and it doesn't involve buying more stuff. I also need to wrap a last couple of pressies for my friends I will see at the weekend.

Food wise I think it will be liver today with some mash and gravy and maybe soup for lunch.

Have a great day all :A

    Early morning eyes all round!

    Good morning folks.

I was in the middle of a lovely deep sleep and enjoying a dream when I got a text saying 'good morning' which woke me up. :rotfl:

My SIsIL rang me last night from QLD (on WhatsApp) and we chatted for nearly an hour. She's starting a new life on really productive land after years of looking after her aged father who died last year. Now she's beginning to blossom being with three of her grandchildren more. I'm so happy to know she's so happy now.

It's still dark here, I don't want to move from my nest. Perhaps, just five more minutes?

    Happy Thursday to all.
