Head Phones - what do you use?

Hello Folks
No I haven't gotten lost.
Anyway I've recently just returned from holiday and I'm after opinions. To keep myself occupied whilst up in the air I like to read and listen to music or spoken word via headphones. Currently I'm using a pair or in ear buds. These are usually ok except for the last flight (Jet2 737) and I was in row 25. I couldn't overpower the noise from the aircraft without damage to me. I wonder if would have been more comfortable towards the front of the plane?
I've read about noise cancelling/reducing head phones but I haven't tried any and the brand names are £100 upwards and unknown brands (to me) are less than £20.
So what do you good people use and would recommend?
Look forward to any replies

I use some quite old over ear Bose noise cancelling QC15 wired headphones, wife uses in ear Bose QC 20
Wouldn’t be without them in a long flight. Both were over £200.
The QC25 are available for about £125 at the mo. I would say buy them now at that price
Check hotukdeals for retailers that are selling them at that price
edited to add the QC model numbers0 -
A good pair of headphones are must if you want to escape the various noises in aircraft. Bose are one of the well known brand that some airlines use in their business class sections.
I was in one of the Heathrow lounges a year or so ago, which had some PC's with headphone attached, I tried them out and was taken aback by the quality. Although I had never heard of them I later researched them and eventually bought at an 'open box' pair of Oppo PM3 headphones. They weren't cheap compared to my old Sony pair you can definitely hear the difference.
Do your research on the various brands and models and definitely try out before making a decision.0 -

Same. Bose QC25. Old and have had a new pair of pads but they are absolutely vital on any flight.0 -
I have some noise-isolating earphones - Shure E2Cs. They block out sound like earplugs, so you don't need to turn up the volume to drown out background noise.
They work brilliantly - even in deafening bars/clubs, you can listen to your own quiet music quite happily.0 -
I'm on my third pair of QC25's (first pair was damaged and traded in to Bose and got a new set very cheaply). Second set lent to a friend who liked them and bought them from me so I bought another pair and I wouldn't be without them on any long haul flight.
I've tried Bose noise cancelling earbuds (quietcomfort 20) but found them far more uncomfortable that the QC25 headphones.0 -

I also use Bose headphones, QC20 in ear phones for travel & the non noise cancelling for everyday. These are the only in ear phones I've found comfortable, I can fall asleep with them in on a flight.0

I would love a good pair of Bose headphones but I don't currently fly enough to justify the price. I tend to just use standard in-ear earphones as over the years I have lost more of them on planes than I care to remember.0

if you fly once a year you wouldnt regret buying the QC 25 at £1250 -
Another vote for Bose - I have Q15's.
I picked up a second hand set for my wife last year for £80, which looked like new.0
