Removal of defaults - Myth?

Options
Hi, I recently made a post regarding a removal of a default from my account, earlier than it should of been, because the company has agreed to this ( I no longer owe money to them , therefore it's not impacting them, they agreed to get it removed, which will update within 28 days)

My question is, Is there a way to get more defaults removed from my account before the 6 year period ?, Obviously ones that I no longer owe money to of course, or is it just a myth and lies?

thanks.

  • It's occasionally possible when negotiating a final payment, although it shouldn't occur.

But with debts that have been settled, there would be little to zero chance unless there is a process failing you can point to.

That's completely fair, yes the reason my most recent default has been removed early was due to a mistake made by the creditor.

that cleared up my question rather well, thanks.
  • Why would they?

It's an accurate representation of the history of the account

They're not obliged to remove to default - the account being settled is not a reason for it to be removed

I wouldn't know? Hence my question.

I've had a couple removed, without settling. The company decided to write it off and remove the defaults after I complained to the ombudsman

Yes, by going through the same process.
  • I went onto a debt managed plan in April 2010 with two creditors and eventually paid them off earlier this year. One of the debt fell off my credit report in 2016 (6 years following a default) however one is still on my report showing as missed payments. The debt with this particular creditor was dealt with by a debt collection agency. So my question is should that debt also have fallen off after 6 years regardless of me being on a DMP? Or should it stay on there until the debt has been paid?
  • What was your complaint regarding? out of curiosity :)

Sorry, regarding you getting some defaults removed, what complaints did you make? as I have looked back into a few of the debts I cleared recently, and also read up on how the debt collector should of dealt with my accounts, and around 3/6 of them have dealt with my accounts incorrectly.

So I may have a foot to stand on with more than one debtor :):T
