Claiming for lost income
Options
I have a business premises, a studio space which I rent out to production companies. About a month ago I was contacted by Keltbray who informed me they'd be doing some work for SP energy networks replacing power line and poles at my property. They said the work would be done on the 3rd December. I told them that I had a studio booking that day and could they move the date of the works. They said they would look into this, and eventually contacted me to say, no they couldn't move the date. I told them I would lose £900 worth of income because of this, and they said they would contact my electricity supplier and tell them this and that I might be able to claim for the loss. The work has now been done, and I have never heard a peep from Keltbray or SP Energy Networks or my supplier SSE. What should I do next and has anyone had any success getting compensation for this kind of thing?

Compensation claim is against Keltbray .
Suggest you quantify your actual losses and bill them .0 -
I would expect you to most likely receive nothing.
You had more than the statutory notification by the looks of it. You could have asked for a generator or provided your own.
My comments will probably sound harsh because SP most probably could have changed your outage, but (for example) your neighbours don't want to go off on the date of the next proposed outage. The pole might have been rotten and fallen down in the meantime at any point and inconvenienced everyone more than this may have done. The DNO has followed protocol and notified you in advance.
Have you spoken to your insurance company and claimed for loss of business?0 -
I did ask for a generator, but they said they could only provide a small one, which I already have.
For the studio booking I needed a large capacity generator and they refused to provide that.
The point with the dates is I already had the studio booking which could not be moved, I gave Keltbray plenty of warning and opportunity to change their works date, but again they refused to change it.0 -
The whole of the electricity supply industry does not revolve around just your business. Why did you not organise a larger generator yourself and bill them for that ? Considering you were given ample opportunity you failed to even attempt to mitigate your loss so I doubt any court would find in your favour.0
