  • Huge congratulations to everyone who made a dent in their debts or smashed their targets.
I'm very embarrassed to say that Mr BigDreams and I will have to sign up for next year's challenge. As no. 110 I managed to dump over £7000 in debt earlier this year.
Unfortunately one of our cars gave up the ghost in summer so back in debt again as it happened before we'd managed to build up some savings. Currently owe £6960 to parents which we aim to clear by next christmas.
Feel so stupid being in debt again and it put me off coming back to cheer people on as I didn't want to admit I was no longer debt free (those 4 months of actually being debt were great though) so let's do it all again x

    Hi All,

Well done and thank you- the help here really spurred me on this year, and I couldn't have hit my target so efficiently without all the encouragement on this thread- i truly mean that

Although my personal circumstances and therefore financial priorities have somewhat altered this last quarter of 2019, I still have the desire to be everything but mortgage debt free by the end of 2020- so my target will be whatever I have outstanding at the start of the year! I will more than likely need a new car soon so I think that it may be a bumpy ride, and go backwards a bit at some point.

So, a bit nervous but I'll take it on, and hope that with everyones help i'll give it my best shot- and succeed. See you all in the 2020 thread people, happy holidays :A

  • It’s been a difficult year money wise and I’ve been trying to keep my head above water so actually pleased I’ve paid off 30% next year will be my 3rd year on this thread and I will do it. I did it before but I had no contingency fund for things breaking so any ideas on how to try to build up that greatly appreciated. If I can get a proper job I may even do this sooner. You are all doing brilliantly. I’d like the same number for next year if this is running again. Have a great holiday see you all on the other side xxxx

Next year will be my debt free year - final target. I thought it was going to be this year but I was over-ambitious. Now that I know I'm going to make it next year I am more relaxed and realistic.

My update includes my latest payments and I will start again on next year's thread.

#163 repaid £4,456 (final total for the year) /£10,607.38.

    Thanks everyone and good luck!

Better to be over-ambitious and fall short. We were the same, we just massively underestimated how much running a family of 5 and having a newborn would cost on a month to month basis, plus the extra nursery day we hadn't planned.

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel though and next year is massive for us. We too are feeling more relaxed about it. Still planning on smashing the remaining debt by August / September time though.
