  • Hi all

    Update for March.

It's been another challenging month, but at least this time the overall debt has reduced even though we've needed to use the CCs.

I've never been this consistent in the past. This challenge is really helping me stay on track, and it's also really shown me (this time...:( ) that reducing debt is so hard. I've had my head in the sand for far too long.

So here are my final figures for March:

    #166 - total paid off to date is £395.10 / £5,683.28.

My actual net reduction this month was just £165 :( , but better than it going the other way :o
Hoping for better results in April.

My debt amount is £4,521.79 which I won't pay off by Christmas, but I'd like to see how far I get!
  • Afternoon Folks,

While I have been reading the site lately, I haven't posted in a while. However, the debt busting is still ongoing. Took advantage of the offer of a family loan to clear a loan, but I've added the family loan balance to my outstanding amount to clear by Christmas. Thankfully that's all interest free, as is about 2750 on the credit card.

Current outstanding debt balance is 10,298.86 of which 8,100 is interest free. Considering my starting balance was 20,075, that's a reduction since January of 9,776.14 (or 48.7%), which I'm quite happy about.

My aim by the end of April is to pay off 2,198.86 which in the interest accruing part of the debt. It should be manageable, especially once I raid my savings account of the 1,100 that's in that.

I've been in some kind of debt for 20 years so the fact that the end is almost in sight is really getting me excited and spurring me on to even beat my goal of debt freedom by Christmas. Admittedly, my progress has not been without its sacrifices, and I'm pretty much just working and going home, but the way I see it, it's worth it - some short term pain for some long term gain :)

    Happy debt busting all :)

I got some expenses reimbursed so I thought I'd make an extra payment to the MBNA card which has a balance of £1,090, to bring it under £1,000 - I'm hoping the psychological effect of a three-figure debt rather than four will make the progress feel more real for me!

    #173 Paid £91.00 = £1,567.13 / £5,800
  • #187 paid off £361.50/£5000

March payments of £41.67 made. Offered more self-employed hours on Monday in a school I work in so hoping that comes through as should be able to make some bigger payments then, but this is the closest I’ve ever been.

#99 41.67 paid in March/2754.60 is level of debt outstanding (I can’t work our calculations of how much paid since joining challenge/percentage but already so much better than Jan, and I hand wrote a debt snowball tracker to encourage me how much better it is than I think it is!)

But if you total my Jan, Feb and Mar DD payments as according to plan and the full and final amount that settled one debt I should now be on...
