Humax / aerial/ hdmi /something problem

Hi all, I have a humax HDR fox t2 which is failing so have replaced it with Humax FVP5000t and the problem is it doesn't have a scart socket - only Hdmi. However Hdmi doesn't work ; tele just shows ' no signal' .

This was also the case with the Fox t2 when I tried an Hdmi cable but got round it with the scart so it didn't really matter.

I have 2 tv's and neither will work unless the fox t2 is on even though the second one in the bedroom is not connected to it - just to the standard coaxial socket

There is also a Vision V23-2102G 100mA Power Supply Unit in the lounge but that seems to make no difference to anything whether it is on or off ( runs from unit to standard coaxial socket in wall)

Any ideas as to why ?

Are you sure you have selected the HDMI input source on the TV?

Sounds like a TV fault if both boxes won't work over HDMI. You need to try them on a different TV

So your second TV uses Freeview, but doesn't work unless your old Humax is turned on? Is the coaxial cable feeding in to your second TV connected to the RF Out on your Humax T2 box?

This provides power to your masthead amplifier, which is next to your antenna. The +12V connection should be to your antenna (through the wall socket) The other connection should be to your Freeview box.

    Tried another hdmi cable?
Otherwise if the Humax is a new unit, you have to wonder if it's the TV, especially as the hdmi wouldn't work from the Fox t2.
Have you got another telly you can try?

Hi , yes tried both tv's ( brought the upstairs one down and plugged it in but no luck)and the hdmi cable is the one that came with the new humax 5000t ( and the second one I've tried)

Both tv's are smart hd tvs ( sony kdl 48w585b and jvc lt-32c 660)

Don't know if relevant but there are 2 boxes on the tv mast . Single cable coming down from aerial into first 'Vision' box - this has 4 exits with 6 cable exiting ( 2 with 1 cable coming out and 2 with 2 cables coming out) 3 of these cable go into another box below the first and exit a the base of box then all 6 cables go down roof to, presumably, the individual sockets ( some certainly do as i can follow the cables , others are in the wall)

Can you answer this from the post above - Are you sure you have selected the HDMI input source on the TV?

Reading through again, I agree with the others. Check the right input is selected.

Hi , yes there are 4 hdmi sockets on the sony tv and I've tried 'em all, just double checked though and found the one marked 'in'- no change.

Strangely though it's not just live tv you don't get ; it won't even bring the menu up to watch recorded stuff but is all fine when you plug the scart back in ( talking about the humax fox 2)

You say you've tried all the sockets, but have you changed the TV's input source to the right channel after you plugged it in?

It's unlikely that both TVs have broken HDMI inputs, or that both Humax boxes have broken HDMI outputs, so you need to get a device with a proven working HDMI input or output and you can prove which bits work from there.

Do you know someone technically minded? If I was your neighbour this is the sort of thing I could sort out pretty easily as I have loads of HDMI devices and cables and TVs. For testing HDMI inputs on TVs one thing I do is to get my crappy Adnroid TV Stick, connect it to a USB power bank and plug the TV Stick directly into the TV. You can do the same thing if you have a NOW TV / Amazon Firestick / Chromecast device ETC. These are all good for testing.

  • Have you tried the top buttons on the humax itself ? ( not the remote control) . That could act like a reset . Have you plugged your tv aerial into it ? ( one end into the tv, the other into humax)
Does it have a socket for adsl ?
    No more questions ..:)

    ^This!

Simply trying out each HDMI socket isn't good enough.

That bit is likely down to power saving mode being turned on in the Humax menu. That prevents RF pass through if the box is 'off'.
